Help Just Got Off The Phone With HTC.. They Now Know What Is Causing Battery Drain..

HTC guy states Sprint and HTC are working day and night to try and fix this issue and here is what it is. Its an incompatibility between the EVO and Sprint towers equipped with Motorola made transmitters. It seems that the phone and the Motorola towers have an incompatibility issue causing the EVO to keep searching for the tower even though its connected using gobs of power doing so. He also said they are not sure if it can be fixed with an over the air patch or not that it may end up being a hardware issue but Sprint is trying to modify the towers to compensate for the issue.

Im sure they will try to make the cheapest fix for them. Try and modify the towers before maybe having to recall 100s of thousands of handsets. (that will never happen) Now this issue is only with the Motorola built towers other towers must not be an issue. How many Sprint towers are built by Motorola that I don't know.

the palm pre had battery issues when it was first released. A software update within months helped the battery out a ton. Im sure HTC will bring out a patch to solve the problem. Just have to be patient. That's all.

That would be nice. It would be nice to get at least a 8 hr. day out of my phone and actually be able to use it and the full feature set.

The only thing off on my phone is 4G and i easily get 15-16 hours of medium usage with a good 30-40% left at the end of the day when i got to bed and throw it back on the charger. It wasnt so great until i did a factory reset, now its fine.

What battery drain? I can get 20 hours out of this phone with a good amount of use (much more if I don't use it much). I couldn't get more than 10 out of my pre just letting it sit.

My battery wasn't so great using the stock ROM. After root and using Bugless Beast v.3 I get great battery life. Take it off the charger at 8:30am and I still have about 30% left at 2am.

I don't want to rain on your parade, but that sounds like complete BS. That sounds like something a customer service rep would make up just because they don't want to talk to you anymore.

If thats true what does that say about HTC? I highly doubt its BS the guy went into some detail about the Motorola towers and there inability to communicate properly with the phone. All I can say is call HTC yourself.

I am almost always around a charger so i never understood peoples battery claims before. Monday i had Jury duty and had to leave my phone locked in my car from 830am until 3pm. It was fully charged before i left the car. When i got back in the car at 3pm i had only 8% battery left. I had about 7 missed calls and 5 or so emails. 2 voice messages waiting. But the phone was not touched all day. To me that is horrible battery life. 6.5 hours of doing nothing on the phone and it was dead.

I dont know anything about Motorola towers ect. What i know is this level of battery life it not acceptable. I had 4g off, wifi on, gps off, I didnt leave any programs running in the background. When i checked task manager it didnt have anything programs running that could explain this.

I have 1 brightly lit stuck pixel on the bottom left of my screen. I was planning to just live with it. But i think i will just take it in and trade it now.

Also i dont have facebook or twitter or any social sync apps or widgets on my phone. I have news set to never sync, i have google voice off ect.

Hmmmm... I don't know, but HTC has made plenty of other phones that use those towers and they don't have the battery problem, right? Could be something new I guess because of the 4G inclusion but I would think that they would know what works with those towers and what doesn't since they've been making phones to work with them for quite some time. Also, HTC uses Motorola parts in all their phones so they are very familiar with Moto's stuff and how it all works together.

Leaving your phone in a hot car will KILLL your battery.

My battery performance has been AWESOME, I don't have any task killers...none of that. Just keep Wi-Fi off when I don't need it, as well as GPS.

I did two battery tricks...one being the CDMA/GSM and the other the SD card reformat.

SD card did absolutely NOTHING for me while it appears CDMA/GSM did help. I used the phone all day, call, text, pandora, WC etc. Right now I'm going on 18 hours of use...battery down to 17% so gonna charge it but I'm coming from a Touch Diamond. That thing would sit for 3 hours and tell me the battery is dead, even if I didn't use it. This phone is so much better that it took me a while to learn to trust it, that it wouldn't die on me in 3 hours.

Well my battery life varies greatly from day to day. I would believe this tower theory as I get horrific battery life here at work while it seems to be much better at home. It's either that or the weak signal here at work. Either way, I scoffed at battery life issues until I actually started paying attention.

I had my phone charged on my work computer up to 100%. I took it off and went to the can. I browsed the internet and sent a few texts. Came back and went to put it back on the charger when I thought to check the battery. 82%. It dropped almost 20% in 20 minutes of internet browsing. I had everything else off.

I don't expect great life as my pre and orginal iphone weren't all that good either but people on here making crazy battery life claims of 24 hours with medium use have me wondering wtf?

Eh. If he was making it up to get the guy off the phone, he wouldn't end the story with "and its a hardware issue with no OTA fix". That would just prolong the discussion and complaints.

Leaving your phone in a hot car will KILLL your battery.

It will kill more than the battery. But my car was in a parking garage. And it wasnt hot in their. And i checked before i left it and made calls from the garage as soon as i got back in the car and could plug the charger in. The garage was in as close to perfect cell phone strength as i ever get. Full bars of signal. I know in some buildings weak signal can make the phone look for a signal all day and drain the battery. That wasnt the case. Full strong signal. It was actually a nice day outside. Wasnt even hot in the car. I tried to make up some reasons to justify the battery drain. But just couldnt. I will have to test it out one day and resist the urge to plug my phone in for a complete day. Its just instinct for me to plug my phone in everytime i get in my car. Or everytime i am home.

We don't know that those other HTC phones don't have the same issue. My HTC Touch Pro had atrocious battery life, and it may have been related to constantly searching for signal. I'd be connected cause I'd have one bar, but the phone would just heat up as if it was trying really hard to do something.
