Oh no, the iPhone-4 screen is scratching.

Why are people constantly looking for justifications to like their phone more? The phone has a screen, so that means that the phone's screen can be scratched. Nobody said either phone's screens couldn't be scratched... so can we please stop with these one line posts and constant non-stop references and comparisons to the iphone? Geez... let's just enjoy the Evo (since this is specifically a Evo forum) and talk about that instead of constantly posting comparisons to the damn iPhone.

QFT.

No phone is perfect. What only matters is if those specific flaws bother you. A scratched screen to one person may not matter to another person as much as a blurry camera.

If you can live with your phone's flaws then keep it.

Pretty sure Sagedil posted this quite "tongue in cheek' so read it and smile. Not really a comparison. I think some of us are just so tired of hearing how superior Iphone4 is to our Evo's. He is just bringing some perspective.

A major drawback to the phone? Yeah because plastic is much more scratch resistant than gorilla glass. /scarcasm

The back of the Evo is plastic and the front glass. I have no scratches on either and it goes naked in my pocket every day.

Considering Apples inability to make a device who's back doesnt scratch terribly within days, its no surprise the iFail 4 will suffer the same fate.

my ipod classics aluminum back looks like Wolverine attacked it.

Not comparing, couldn't care less and NOT point of thread.

Again, written only for people freaking out about every new imperfection with the Evo and screaming bloody murder about HTC screwing up.

And if you don't think that is necessary, you are not reading the same forum here as I am.

Again, ONLY point here. ALL new phones have problems. You may know that. But unfortunately, too many people here do not.

Funny, people seemed to have lost their sense of humor when it comes to cell phones...

No matter how you slice it Gorillia glass > Plastic. Just because your phone doesn't have scratches and Engadget's does, doesn't mean anything if both users are handling the device differently. From what I read, Engadget threw theirs against a wall, you didn't.

BTW, I lol'd at the wolverine comment.

Lets be honest, you have to buy a case anyway for any phone. You really think plastic is better than Gorilla glass? I don't see any kind of trickery here by Steve Jobs. Having scratch resistant glass is a huge plus, not a negative.

let's be honest honest. maybe YOU have to buy a case for every phone, but i think it's safe to say a ton of people don't. i don't think anyone is saying that plastic is better than GG. my thoughts are similar to bnice in that clearly apple is showcasing the design of the back of the phone being glass....nothing wrong with that if as bnice said it's for looks or whatever...but IMO it does kinda beg the question of if you're gonna make a phone with a glass back, why make a stock cover for it that hides it's shiny splendor, and ultimately leaves you with a ... rubber...back....why not make a cover that goes only around the edges or something, so as to always be able to show off that shiny glass back, especially since it's being treated as such a magnificent piece of handiwork...i myself think it LOOKs very sexy, but the practicality of it leaves me wondering...great marketing move to me as well to make the cases for it right off the bat and advertise them right alongside the primary product...(i've never seen that done before where a case for a phone shares the spotlight with said phone)...good luck to those with sweaty hands who own a glass phone...just sayin...

You know, I've dropped my Eris any number of times from varying heights, and even onto asphalt when I've gotten out of the car, and I've never EVER scratched my screen. I don't even use screen protectors. (Now that I've said something, I bet I scratch it within 24 hours, what do you think?)

It's not been confirmed that it IS Gorilla glass... just thought some facts might be useful in this discussion.

If a material is more scratch resistant than the former, then as a designer I would use it. It doubles up as protection and making it look good at the same time. Also btw Stainless steel scratches easier than the glass if it is perceived to be as strong as sapphire crystal. So maybe thats why they have bumpers, instead of full bodies.

That is true. Gorilla glass or not, its still stronger and more scratch resistant than cheap plastic. I'm still not following how using glass instead of plastic is a bad thing other than it probably shattering.

I think I'll pass on an all glass phone.
