Why won't my contacts sync? (Android 2.0)

Ok, so I'm experiencing some weird contact syncing habits on my Droid. The Verizon tech put all of my contacts from my old phone into the Droid, and I have a pretty massive contact list via Google Contacts. The problem is that none of my phone numbers on the Droid are making their way into Google Contacts. So for Jim Smith, I might have an e-mail on Contacts, but I have to manually look up his number in my phone and add it to his contact record.

Any way for me to force a merge of the phone list on my Droid and the e-mail list on Google Contacts? I've tried the standard "Sync" operation for contacts through the Settings menus.

Thanks,
-Nate

I have the same issue. The tech at Best Buy was able to bring all of my contacts from my old phone (Motorola Q9c) but none of them have synced to my gmail account yet. I have tried creating a new contact on the phone and it does sync up. Need a way to force all of the contacts to merge into a gmail account.

Ok, I don't really know how to tell you to get the sync to work. I do have a solution for you, though...

If you go to your contacts list and go to the menu, there is an option to export to SD Card. From there, you can mount your card on your computer, grab your contacts, and import them directly to your Google Contacts on the computer. Let me know if this works... as I am simply coming up with this solution in my head.

I'll try this tonight. Anyone else find a solution?

I've had a similar issue with my Droid. I exported the contacts from the droid, imported the contacts into gmail on my computer, followed by a Factory Data Reset of the phone. That seemed to get things flowing again.

I was merging duplicate contacts from gmail on my computer when it seemed to quit syncing.
