Orange UK 2.1 update news

I emailed Orange the other day asking them when the 2.1 update was expected. I got a phone call from them today, and they advised that they had hoped to have it available for the end of June, but they've had to push it back by a few weeks.

So they're expecting it to be available from middle to end of July. They said Orange customers would receive an SMS to advise that it was available, and there would be a download link on the Orange website.

Good news indeed, and straight from the horses mouth this morning.

Good work. Glad they're sending an SMS.

No offence to the thread starter :)

BUT I'll believe it when I see it. Thanks for the info though.

Al

None taken.

However, I work in software development, so the fact that a company the size of Orange are advising customers of when the release is due, gives me confidence that it'll be made available then.

As they've now told me, I could easliy then tweet, blog, etc about it and if they then didn't deliver, they'd have too much reputation to lose.

I think if they didn't think it was going to be available, they either wouldn't have bothered phoning me to respond to my email, or they would have said they weren't sure when it was available by email response.

I don't doubt us Orange customers will see 2.1 soon, and I'm sure the information you've been given is correct. It's just I'm sick to death of new release dates, rumours, speculation ect ect. For example I was told by Orange it would be available around the third week in June.

It is coming, when I don't know, but it can't be too far away, lets all hope it's been worth the wait.

Cheers Al

I'm already using SenseHero2.1, so I'm already using 2.1 features. So in that sense I'm not expecting anything new from the official ROM, but I'd rather be using an official GSM 2.1 ROM, than a hacked CDMA one.

I was considering not telling people what Orange just told me because people like yourself might think it was a wind up.

I have been reading on another thread that people have been installing the generic ROM and de branding their phones just to get the 2.1 update.

This can cause problems as some or all paid apps will not be visible, and for the sake of waiting a few more hours I would hold back on doing this, and get the official ROM..... Tonight!! if I was told the truth by the Orange man.

So if it's not up by then, take a chance and de brand.

Just copied this from another thread:-

"Orange have just phoned me (following a phone call to them) to tell me it won't be out till September!! "

I hope this isn`t true, because we`ll be on our own to fight the cause to get it sooner.. as the rest of the hero world have got their update now and don`t care about us. :(

Just to confirm someone else has had the same info as me from Orange

This has been posted on the HTC Hero Facebook page.

Hi Orange buddies, i spoke to 3 different Orange customer reps today 30th June 2010 and they said the first update will be ready by midnight today so make sure you connected to wi-fi or internet. And the second can follow through any time after.

Lets hope so
