Are you returning your EVO, and why?

It's a great phone and likely the best; however, here are some things that I can't live with:

1) The battery does not get me through the day. I'm not around a charger every few hours. This is the deal breaker for me
2) Screen freezes at least once per day. Even after removing task killer
3) Some misc bugs that need to be worked out. Can't risk that they are hardware issues
4) Sprint has some weak spots in my service area. Other carriers are strong there
5) Not happy with the $10 premium charge from Sprint (x 2 phones)

I am not going to get nasty with comments.. ultimately you are the one that has to be happy. However i live near a border so service at home it self has always been on and off... i have noticed a huge improvement with reception with this phone. I can watch you tube at home and had never been able to before. I believe there could be improvements on your battery with tweaks however. I know it has mad a difference for me big time. Task Killer is not the only app that can freeze your phone. I would do a resety and add one app a day. The sprint 10.00 per line .. i pay 2x as well .. and we still have a cheaper plan than anyone else can provide.

I had to take my Evo back. I get bad service at home: I was getting 1 or 2 bars and it was slow. I spend 10 hours at work and thats were I got the worst service. I was either roaming, or I got 1 or 2 bars and it was sloooowww. I know it can be fast because while sitting at a Jiffy Lube waiting on an oil change I got 5 bars and 3G and my phone worked like it was supposed to: it was so fast!!! But then I get home and its slow again. So apparently where I work and live are spotty areas but according to Sprint map I should have 3G coverage.
I also noticed that my phone would freeze randomly and my battery life was bad. At work I would have to charge it or it would be dead by 1pm. I thought it was just the phone roaming but i turned that off and the battery was still bad.
I would have put up with the battery, but not getting a good signal anywhere unless I am driving or at a Jiffy Lube was unacceptable. Especially with that $10 fee. I might have kept the phone in hopes that the update would fix the signal issues, but that fee (which I didnt like in the first place) made me take it back. I wanted that rich browsing experience they promised and I didnt get it. Too bad because I loved that phone! The Motorola Droid X doesnt look as nice as the Evo but I will be waiting to see others reviews before I decide to get the phone.

I have had 3 handsets already but never had a screen freeze so I would say that isn't typical maybe you need to do a master reset it might have been caused by an app you installed just removing it sometimes wont fix it without a reset. The battery issue is fairly common among high powered big screened smart phones and im told Sprint is working on the issue because some of the drain problems might be caused by an incompatibility between the phone and Motorola made Sprint towers. Weak spots in a given service area are something that just happens from time to time no matter what carrier. The $10 surcharge? you signed the contract when you purchased the phone so why gripe now? Even with the $10 charge my bill is still less than what I was paying with Verizon when I had the Incredible.

Actually It's a 2gb cap for that 20 dollars for tethering.

I'm thinking about it. I love the EVO itself, but the sprint service isn't what I hoped it would be. It's not uncommon for my "Time without a signal" to be anywhere from 5%-30% on a given day, which hurts the battery. Sprint seems to be fine anywhere outside, but at the office, my house, and some other places I've been, 0-1 bars. I've also seen the signal bounce from 1 to 4/5 to 1 while sitting in the exact same spot in my house. I lose GPS signal frequently when using the navigation. Wifi signal is weak. I suppose I could have a bad antenna for all the radio's, but seems unlikely to me.

The battery life has improved significantly since those first few days, and I'm still using the phone a lot. The battery calibration procedures seemed to help, and I sit at a computer all day, so I can charge it whenever I want. Even without doing that, I can get 12-14 hours a day on a charge.

No. I can understand many of the reasons people have for returning their Evos though. Never going back to ATT...people either dont know or forgot that ATT was broken up by the Govt and it took a long time to do it..and here they are today back together again,,doing the same bullshit that got them into trouble before. I'm just not going to be someone who goes along with that....Sprint is a niche I will stay in.

I'll miss the 4.3" screen and the google apps, but the iPhone looks to be better built and since my wife already has one I'll still get the unlimited data and save $40 a month by switching.

Do you not txt or send pictures over MMS? Visual Voicemail is a $3 fee and there is that 2gb cap on tethering.

mms they'll still send the pics just gotta pay like 25cents for each one, but im having them send to e-mail anyway cause i dont want to give out my real mobile number just gv so ppl dont get confused.

Just to let you know, You can use unlimited data through the phone
but the Hotspot feature has a 2GB cap. I believe it's .05 per MB for overage fees. Sprint is $10 more, but it is truly unlimited data via tethering.

So, if your going to use tethering heavily, you may want to make sure your under 2GB/month.

That being said, your right on about the pricing. I use Google Voice (like many Android users) so I don't need unlimited texts from a carrier and unlimited calls to cell phones don't help me (since the number Google Voice calls is not a cell phone) So, Verizon is slightly cheaper for me. As a result, I'm considering wether I return my EVO and wait for the Droid X.

I spoke to a rep the past weekend after getting my Evo on launch and Airrave is not available for my area. Both of these conversations were via the phone, so I will be visiting the Sprint store where I purchased to confirm. If that is indeed the case, that I'm unable to use Airrave,I will be returning the phone and getting the DroidX since Verizon is very good at my house.

Same for me. Service at home is very poor with a lot of dropped calls. The Airrave was not being offered. The rep at the store said I probably needed a higher priced plan in order to qualify. I returned the phone.

I'm considering it. There are just so many minor issues that add up, and for $440 ($199+($10*24 months)) it's just really hard to justify.

1. The big one: TERRIBLE WiFi reception. I leave BlueTooth off, but that does nothing to help my WiFi. I get almost no reception in places where my laptop reception is excellent. It's not just the indicator either, the reception is actually very bad - to the point where it's faster for me to use 3G.

2. The newly discovered one: I was downright astounded to see Chris Pirillo's comparison between the iPhone 4 camera and the EVO camera. The video quality is sub-par, and the audio quality is HORRENDOUS. If you haven't seen it, look here: YouTube - iPhone 4 vs Evo Mash Up

3. Screen separation. I don't mind the light leakage, but the screen separation indicates a generally poor build quality. I worry about dust getting under the screen, and it has a negative impact on the tactile experience of the device. Running my finger off the top or sides of the screen feels nice. Running my finger off the bottom feels jarring.

4. 30fps limit. At least with this one I trust there will be a software update eventually, but it's a frustration.

5. Grounding issues. For the amount of money I've paid and am expected to continue to pay for this device, I should be able to use it in a car dock without worrying about whether the screen will correctly interpret my touch input.

6. Unusable FM radio. I've heard this uses the same chip as the WiFi, which would make sense since neither work for me. No matter what I do (different headphones, etc), I can only get one radio station. This, despite the fact that I live only a mile away from a radio tower for a different radio station.

7. I don't even get 4G in my neighborhood. I take issue with the $10 fee in general, but I'd be more accepting of it if I were actually getting something extra for it. I at least live near a 4G market, so I get to use it when I drive an hour into the city. Unfortunately, that's not where I spend most of my time.

8. Battery life. This is actually the least important issue for me. If the above issues didn't exist, I wouldn't even care about the battery life. Instead, it's just one more slightly negative experience to add on top of all the other slightly negative experiences. Put them all together, and it makes it a real challenge to be happy with this phone.

My girlfriend loves her Evo, but she had a flip phone before that so she's just happy to be able to access internet and use apps on her phone. I don't think I'll be able to convince her that we should switch to Verizon for the Droid X (and moto blur is freakin' ugly!), but I'm considering returning my Evo and getting a Samsung Galaxy S Pro when it comes out instead. (Unfortunately, I'm no fan of Samsung's imitation iPhone UI either.)

I really don't see many problems with them. I hate having to worrying about random reboot with new apps. It seems as if apple controls the quality of apps that are available. I wish the evo was a more solid phone, because the hardware problems are the main reason I'm thinking about switching.

You know what i never understand, the folks thats returning their phone or switching phones why not just do it and move on you don't need to justify yourself but its like misery loves company you want to start a whole post so others will side with you.
