  • Hey sreedhar...wer are u based out of...this is ashwin from bangalore...thought of making and indian thread for HTC desire and probably share updates and interests..wat say!!!
i checked for it manually....saw the update is available message...opted the option yes and then it automatically downloaded the 90 mb setup and installed...everything was auto...
htc desire are there are of two types one is sim free that mean any sim can be put into it.. those desires are coming directly frm the HTC company. The other type is frm HTC, companies like vodafone t mobile and all will be getting the Desire and then customizing it according to their needs...

In ur case verify with the buyer whether its a sim free phone they gave u or they unlocked a phone and gave u....

regarding the update i have no clue whats happenign may be it wil take some time since they r rolling it out...

static ip sry i cant help tehre not much idea regarding it....
i do not understand 'sim free' - when i got the handset; i took out the sim card from my Nokia 5310 and installed it in the Desire - does it mean that my handset is 'sim free'?

i have tried checking for updates manually many times, but every time i get the message ' Your Phone is up to date - There are no updates available for your phone'

the software info of my phone is
    Firmware Version 2.1 Update 1
    Base Band - 32.36.00.28U_4.0.06.00.02_2
    Kernel 2.6.29/b7e82785
    HTC-Kernel @and18.2#1
Build No 1.19.707.7 CL171460 Release Keys
    Software No 1.19.707.7

i have a wifi connection in my office as well as my home so that is no problem

also for wifi connection, if i opt for static ip address on my phone , it does not connect to my wifi router, but if i uncheck the static ip option, i am able to connect to my wifi router - any tips on this ?

    thanks in advance
if ur handset is a sim free one then u wil be getting a notification else click on Menu button Settings -> About Phone .< system softwre updates and check for the update manually if there is any update available u can download the same..

i suggest u go to some wifi spot and download the same...there will be surely open wifi spots avaiable in mumbai...u just need to look for it...
usually my battery wil be lasting for abt 15 hrs..(including call for arnd 1 hr, little bit browsing etc) if u r having a car then car charger wil come handy.. another issue u wil be facing is the plugpoint of the default charger.. u shud be buying a cnverter which costs arnd Rs25 or 50 max :) (which u wil be getting frm any electric shops)else u shud be charging it thru ur pc...
Thanks a lot for your help... i was really worried about the OTA updates ! I read somewhere on xda forums that i wont receive OTA updates in India... now I can take a sigh of relief. My desire will be arriving next week :) I am really exited now !
I'll try getting a case. How long does your battery last with average use without internet? And by mobile charger, do you mean a car charger?

    Thanks Again for your Help
    Cheers

    Hi Udit,

Nice to meet u... Coming to ur question OTA update is available in India also. I bought it on April first week itself and since then I have received 2 updates which updated from here in India(State Kerala) Think Froyo also will be available over here...
