  • I went the opposite way I started in BB but I hit 30 and realized I was bigger than I was at 20 but not really any stronger so I switched to PL. Got stronger, but the body started breaking down now Im kinda a hybrid. Joints just cant take the abuse, no matter how much fish oil and Glucosamine I down
But yes for speed bench / acceleration training there is probably nothing better than a light bar weight with medium band tension .
Now deads are a trickery beast. Deads were always my weak link of the 3 due to my L4 L5 problems I just was never good convo or sumo. Also IMO chains becomes less effective on deads given the leverage. I was always the kinda guy where if it left the floor it was coming up all the way. Speed deads with bands I think do help with that acceleration off the floor, however you really need a proper platform. There are different ways to set your bands up for speed deads just like bench. Probably a 2 phase protocol works alternating between them depending on the week or month you are in. As well as knowing where you sticking points are.
Anyway, this was the tip of the iceberg, I can do musclehead talk all day buddy feel free to hit me up anytime for that..or phone stuff too ;)
Oh my friend you are singing my song now. Seriously we could talk about this for hours. To be brief yes I have been using bands and chains for several years. More accurately I used them extensively for years 2006-2010 but in recent months I have backed away some as I am not in a competition phase for PL. Anyway, there's so much benefit to either really. You mentioned bench and dead. A lot depending on whether you are just after sports performance improvement or if you are an actual powerlifter. Even then it makes a difference if you are raw or use gear. While I vigorously recommend chains. Bands are arguably better for speed. The set up is key and depends on the above mentioned factors. Also its good to hit it both ways. One way is set up a light bar weight and medium band tension the other is medium bar weight and lighter band tension. Either way ideally you want minimal tension at the chest and obviously it will increase substantially as you press out.
Well, well, well, a fellow weightlifter nice:D. See I told you I like your style. Myself I've been in the iron game approaching 25 years now. Its nice to see another musclehead around these parts. No one to talk shop with in here
