I think your power control widget is different to mine;
on my power control widget there is only wifi, BT, sat, sync & brightness.... no data
never seen it turn red, only green (when on). did u try trashing it, looking in settings to see if data is on or off, then afterwards reinstate the widget?
For data (3g) I have APNdroid widget, which is green when on, red when off. To uninstall, it MUST be green (on, or else you'll lose all APN settings that were changed by the widget).
