  • Disable data:
    Go to settings -> Wireless and network -> Mobile Networks
    Disable Packet data (When disabled it won't send data, so you safe battery)
    Network mode:
    Same menu, but select Network mode and select the network with the best coverage, GSM, WCDMA or GSM/WCDMA (Auto)
    GSM network has usually the best coverage and, at least overhere, WCDMA is crowded. When disabling the latter, it doesn't try to register to WCDMA and, when failing to do so, register GSM.

    For the time-out of the screen:
    Go to settings -> Display -> Screen time-out and select the time-out you would like to have. I've set mine to 1 minit, as I think 15 or 30 seconds is annoying. (Especially as I now know that you can lock the screen with a short press of the power button)

    I hope this helps.
    Sure, but remember, I'm using it as a phone, not a smartphone. So I don't internet with it and I don't install/use apps

    - disabled background sync (settings -> accounts/sync)
    - disabled data
    - choose gsm as network (as the other has no coverage inside my house)
    - disabled wifi, bluetooth, gps, all positioning stuff
    - set screen blackout to 15 sec (but switched back to 1 min and will lock myself)
    - don't install application killers (the junk gets started anyway, so it'll eat battery life)
    - don't call to much. ;) (Average less then 1 call a day of < 5 min)

    It's my company phone en when I would have chosen to buy my own it would have to be able to sync email and other stuff. This one can, but I'm not using it. (so I'm not paying for the phone that can, but won't use the options)
