Never had that problem. I have a Verizon Note Edge.
On Verizon there are certain other features like ringback tones that you cannot have if you have advanced calling turned on.
Since part of the shift from Apple to Android is the ability to customize, consider the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge which lets you put apps on the edge.
