As Apple's WWDC comes to an end, there's no mention of iMessage for Android
Toward the end of last week, a rumor stated that Apple was going to announce iMessage for Android at their upcoming WWDC event.

The keynote has just ended and there wasn't any mention of iMessage being released on Android at all. Some speculate that Apple could announce it later, but that seems unlikely since they talked about Apple Music for Android while they were on stage last year.

I don't know how anyone thought this was ever a possibility.

When iMessage was first introduced they talked about going cross-platform at some point, but once they realised it worked as a lock-in that was quietly forgotten about.

Most likely someone heard there was a significant iMessage announcement coming, took a guess at what it could be and posted that as "information".

Well, stranger things have happened over the years. But I can't think of any valid reasons why Apple would want to even bother porting iMessage to other platforms, unless it does some kind of 'free for Apple users but monetized for everyone else' plan.
