Google files a trademark for Mode, includes a logo and description of the project
A new trademark filing from Google shows off a new logo for the word mark Mode. Nothing has been announced, so we don't really know if they will ever release a product.

However, the description of the trademark talks about watch straps, bands and “parts and fittings for watch bands and watches, namely, clasps and connectors.”

The craziest part is its for a watch -- something Google doesn't even offer (yet).

Could be hinting at a possible upcoming Google smartwatch, no?

It's definitely a possibility. I don't see any other reason why they'd do something like this

Must mean Google thinks current smartwatch offerings suck (and they do). 300 dollars for something that basically doesn't do a whole lot. Get Google now cards..track steps. See hangouts messages.

    Big deal.

Hopefully Google either intends on raising the bar for a smartwatch should do or they're possibly looking to bring the price down to a more reasonable level or maybe a combination of both.

Sounds like it's going to be a range of fashion accessories for it, different coloured straps or whatever, to make them more trendy and appealing to non-geek non-techy types. Perhaps they took some advice from Swatch or something. The word "mode", really means fashion.
