    HTC has released the Marshmallow kernel source code for the One M9
    To create a custom kernel for a smartphone, community developers have to wait until the OEM publishes the open source code for said device.

    This is actually required by the GPL in order to release an Android device and today HTC has done just that. Since they're pushing out Marshmallow to more and more One M9 devices, we're now seeing them release the kernel source code for those devices as well.
