Indian law mandates GPS and dedicated panic button in all phones
The Indian government has just passed a new law that will require all phones sold within India to feature a GPS chip and a dedicated panic button to contact local emergency services. The GPS chip requirement does not go into effect until 2018, but manufacturers will be required to include a panic button starting on January 1 of 2017. The good news is that the manufacturers can use existing power or volume buttons to double as a panic button when pressed in a certain sequence or for a specific amount of time.
