Killed By Google: List of products, apps, services discontinued by Google
This is a pretty interesting and comprehensive list of products that Google killed off. The company has always hedged their bets by creating redundancies (think messaging) and dabbled in "the next big thing" (Wave, Buzz, etc... ) but it's surprising to see how many seemingly successful entities they've killed off.

My favorite discontinued product was easily Google Reader. Not sure why they killed it completely instead of trying transition the content and users into a more social environment like Google Plus. Seems like it was a complete waste to me and I still miss the days of following news through Google Reader via RSS. Somehow Feedly never fulfilled that appetite, perhaps because of the changing nature of digital news. Maybe Google saw that coming.

What was your favorite discontinued Google product, service, or app?

FWIW Goggles is the only one on that list that I've used. In fact there's many I've never even heard of.

    Wasn't WearOS simply rebranded "Wear"?

What am I missing? I know Android Wear was rebranded to Wear OS, but as far as I know, Wear OS is still going strong. In fact it was updated this month. Is it really dead?

    Edit:
Nevermind. After some research I came across this:

I've read the list and I've never used a single product on it (though I did buy my son a 2013 Nexus 7, which he's still using).

Am I unusual, or do I represent the reason they were all dropped?

I was saddened to see the end of the Nexus line, and was unimpressed with the Pixel. That said, my next phone is very likely going to be a Pixel. I briefly used Inbox but never really used it the way it was intended. That's it for me from the list.

I like that Google is willing to try things and make them available to anyone (most of the time). You just have to go into it knowing that it could not work out and they could kill it or sell it off. Sort of like dating.

lol, nah, still WearOs, but I was being an ass :)

They are still working on it, and rolling out new features, but still...
Reality isn't what it's cracked up to be
lol, yea, that is what I meant. I mean, I REALLY hope it succeeds.
Pixel 3 is my first nexus or pixel phone. And after HTC for 10 years, the Pixel is a breathe of fresh air, even with its issues.

I still use hangouts daily. In fact, I've used it since it was Google talk (I think). It was a part of GMail around 2006 or so. It has become many different names since then, and I'll probably continue to use it under whatever new name it becomes.

Word is they are actually killing it completely. Then pushing people to what has been the internal app, Hangouts Chat, once it is opened up to everyone.
