It depends on the product and company. One year warranty is common for phones and most electronics, but some products will have 30 or 90 day warranties.

Others can have 5 or 10 year warranties, or a lifetime warranty. Some vehicle warranties are up to X years or X mileage, whichever is reached first.

I keep getting an Invalid IMEI when I try to sign up for this. It's the unlocked LGUS997 model from B&H Photo. I had the same issue with the Free Google Home.

So I sent an email to B&H Photo just now.

Twice now I have been declined from offers for free things because the IMEI number on my LG G6 Android Phone purchased from you on May 1st, 2017 has been said to have an Invalid IMEI number. The first item was a Google Home and now I am being denied an upgrade from 1 year to 2 Years of protection from LG because of it. You folks have had a good reputation since the Pocket PC era of mobile devices but I'm beginning to have my doubts. How is it possible for my phone purchased directly from you to have an Invalid IMEI number?

So now to LG with this

I purchased the LG G6 Unlocked from B&H Photo on May 1, 2017 and it was delivered to my home on May 18, 2017. As soon as I got the phone I signed up for the Free Google Home being offered with the purchase of this phone. I entered all the information on your web form and included a photo of my receipt as well as a photo of the serial numbers and other information on the side of the box. Days passed with no email so I called the US Support line. I was told the IMEI was invalid. Fast Forward to the latest promotion extending the warranty from 1 year to two years. I filled out your on line web form and recieved a bright red message saying the IMEI was invalid after I filled out all the information. This caused me to contact B&H Photo who told me they got the phone directly from LG and that I would need a case number from LG for them to look into it. Can you please send me a case number regarding my complaints? I like this phone and was going to buy it before I heard about the promotions.

Reminds me of one of my favorite Billy Preston song; Will It Go Round In Circles?

I just signed up and it went through.

I hoe you get this sorted out. LG should really pay more attention to those who buy the phone outright rather than catering to carriers.

B&H is certainly a reputable vendor. I've bought plenty of photo equipment from them. I think you need to get the low-down from LG directly as to why they think the IMEI is invalid.

If you need any help, I can get my "Uncle Joe" from North Philly to pay them a visit with a couple of his pals.
