Anyone here unsatisfied?

I think for $199, I would be able to deal with the issues. But for $449, I am on the fence. But I kinda shot myself in the foot by selling my Hero & Pre, so I would still have to buy another sprint phone at full price. Was thinking the blackberry 9650 or touch pro 2 till either the evo gets fixed or something better comes out.

I wouldn't go and buy yet another phone for full price. Just buy another pre online for a fraction of the cost of a brand new phone you don't really want anyway. Then wait it out for a different phone or better build on the HTC.

Sprint is a subpar carrier who is just now starting to rebuild itself. Just because you in "10 years" received "great" service doesn't mean i can't think
or believe sprint is subpar.

Search the web, Sprint is said to have actually improved its customer service this year which makes me wonder "Just how bad" sprint was.

Different strokes for different folks - I've had Sprint for 10 years and never had an issue. Great coverage everywhere I go (including 4G currently at my apartment) and never had a big issue with customer service. When I deployed to Iraq, I brought along a Blackberry worldphone, and customer support was great at crediting dropped calls (so much so that $600 was taken off a phone bill due to international roaming rates and bad coverage by the phone networks in Kuwait en route).

I have friends that love Verizon and I've always heard good things about them as well, minus the prohibitively expensive plans.

Only service I've ever heard tons of bad about is AT&T... for so many reasons.

I am on my 3rd EVO... guess what... I still love it! There is no reason not to... I was patient.. got my replacements and now I don't have any issues with my current one.. can it change? sure.. what can't...

I did not have unreal expectations of a phone... my video and camera work perfectly for what I need / use it for.. I am not trying to publish them in a magazine .. I just use them for my own personal use and for family to see the kids...

I really would love to know who you guys spoke to in sprint customer service lol

But yeah like you said Different strokes for different folks.

Sprint appealed to me because of their data plans.

My base plan with Sprint
was everything data for 69.99+10 bucks for the evo=79.99

Verizon:
89.99 for unlimited data and text
and 30 for the data package

I just wish i had a better time with sprint because 40 dollars over the cost
of 24 months is a lot of money i could be saving....But what can i do ha

Personally, for 40 bucks a month (it's actually 90 bucks cheaper for me since I use EPRP family plan) I would just hang up on an idiot who doesn't know what they're talking about, and call back until I got someone decent. How often do you have to call customer service? lol

I just read on another thread about people using Google Voice to avoid a text plan all together with Verizon. Not sure what the savings would be. And I haven't really used Google Voice for texting, so I'm not sure how the quality compares either.

I used to do that...But it got annoying

I only had sprint for a month and a half 4/30/10-this past saturday.

I have called customer service if i had to guesstimate at least 2-3 times per week(some weeks more so than ever)

Language barrier aside(although ppl here dispute this), i've gotten either incompetent people or rude people.

so at least 20 times in a month and a half with a company i was going to be stuck with for at least 24 months? Hmm....dont think i'd be a happy camper.

I'd def would have become a troll lol

I have google voice on my phone with a number for it(Why idk)

but the question is

wouldn't i have to tell people my Verizon number to call and my google voice number to text?

I mean i would love to know how people go about doing this.
This would save me 20 bucks with verizon bringing the base pay to 99 bucks(with sprint it wouldnt matter as much)

I've stated my opinion of the Evo in another thread. I've since returned it and went back to verizon and I am awaiting the droid x

I lurk here because the people are nice and knowledgeable(well most anyway)

Personally i have had about 70% of the issues that people complain about.

Random Freezing, reboots
Grounding issues
Screen seperation/light leakage
etc etc

but even so i would have stayed with the Evo if it wasn't on Sprint because
even with those flaws this is literally the best I've played with.

As stated in other threads, this is your 1st smartphone and I am shocked that
you are not nearly "OH MY GOD ITS THE BEST THING EVER" coming from a flip phone lol

I've used other android phones so its isn't a big as a jump for me as it is for you
but if i had been using my lg env touch or even that samsung alias 2 i'd probably die from the excitement of using the EVO.

Its a good phone on a subpar carrier but perhaps you should wait for the Samsung Galaxy Pro coming soon

Yeah I seen that thread. I told you not to return to the big red monster lol. Seriously, I'm sorry to hear that you returned your EVO. Good luck with the Droid X. That phone is a beast on it's own right but I still prefer the EVO.

For the OP I'm very satisfied with my EVO. It's the best phone I have ever had. :)

For all the complaints about the Evo, try to remember there are issues about ANY new phone. For instance, you might want to avoid the iPhone if you are left-handed:

iPhone 4 Antenna Not for Lefties | Wireless Week

All phone do have issues of some type, but connection should not be one of them.

BTW, I just called someone that I know who got the iP4 today. Call failed. I did catch him on his biz phone which is provided by VZW. He wasn't happy when I laughed at him and reminded him that he just went through all that effort to find out the network's still the weak spot. I had fun with him reminding him that ATT's answer to congestion in NYC was to go to Times Square and use wifi - pure comedy!

He's all about the looks of the phone, but I bet he returns it if the failed calls are no different on iP4 than iP3GS.

Hi Carmen, You sound very knowledgeable yourself. Quick question, You mentioned Sprint being a problem, and I notice you're from New Jersey, is the Sprint Network bad in New Jersey ? I ask because I'm thinking of getting an EVO, and I work in Jersey City, and get horrible reception with AT&T and my iphone. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks !

After this fiasco 3 handsets in 3 weeks, I will never consider an HTC made handset again.

You remind me of the neighbors dog. He will run at anyone walking by at full force just sure that chain is now somehow 4 feet longer then the last time. Each time it comes up short and you get flipped onto your back.

Here is a question for you, why? You are not stupid, so why keep going back to them? I will never go back to blackberry, ever. I learned my lesson. If you the phones never meet your expectations, they why not just walk away, makes no sense.

As for the original topic, every released phone suffers. Every one, we have light leakage, iphone 4 has screen stain, that leaves a yellow stain on the corner of screen. They are also suffering from wifi and gsm receptions issues. Still has dropped calls.

But to those that "thought it would be different this time", why? You it is like a dog on a short leash, why try each time knowing you are going to get hurt. You are never going to get what you want. The only thing that I can figure out is you like to make a show and complain. Either that or you are just, oh well.

I have separation issues, grounding, poor wifi/wimax.

But the phone is really fast and battery life is better then the tour. But I have changed how I used the phone, I have a charger at work, in my car, and at home. There is more then enough battery life to make it from point to point.

No matter how many times i discuss this with people they refuse to listen. Sprint and Verizon are pretty much the same network. Verizon has better marketing and they are a house hold name. They charge more simply because they can. I have been with Sprint for at least 7 years. It makes no sense to go with any other carrier unless you want to have a Iphone. Thats the only exception. Sprint plans just make sense. lol

No (from my understanding), you can use your Google Voice number to replace everything you'd normally do with your carrier number. Pretty new to it myself so I may be mistaken.

Sprint is fine in NJ. I've been in the following areas extensively: Princeton - to Newark and everything in between, Somerset and central NJ, NJ coast from Aberdeen to Brick, entire NJ Turnpike from 5A to 18E/W, GSP from Tom's River to last northbound exit in NJ. Never a problem connecting calls or 3G data. I haven't seen 4G here yet even though others are reporting it.:D

I know this Google Voice is off-topic, but I couldn't resist. I love Google Voice. The way to use it is as follows:

Tell all your contacts that your number has changed. Tell them they can contact you anywhere by using this one number. This is your home, your cell, your text, your everything number. Simply point your landline, mobile and work numbers to your Google number.

You will receive your text and voice messages in your Google Voice mailbox. Your voice messages will be transcribed. It makes life much easier when you don't have to check messages from multiple numbers.

After this fiasco 3 handsets in 3 weeks, I will never consider an HTC made handset again. The idea is grand but the execution is very poor. HTC really has to step up the quality control.

Only giving the phone 3 weeks and giving up on HTC as a brand is pretty harsh. I mean the QC was terrible for the first round of phones. All 3 of your phones were probably from the first batch. Unfortunately by not giving HTC time to sort out the problems and fix later models of phones you aren't doing yourself justice. Jumping ship within 30 days is a poor decision in my opinion but to each their own (i dont know if you jumped ship but some have). I'll give HTC my obligated 22 months with this phone and if the problems persist until that point I will prob drop HTC as a company. As long as they keep coming out with innovative phones however they will always be in consideration. My first 2 iphones failed within 6 months in 2007. My 3rd iphone had absolutely zero problems for the next 18 months till I left at&t for sprint.
