Help Let me up, I think Ive had enough...

Hard to believe that a major company in the cell phone business would release a phone as problematic at our Moment. My first one went 6 months before I started calling Sprint with the WTF is the deal calls. I had put up with all the common BS we pretty much all experienced thus far in hopes that the 2.1 release would solve the issues, at least the chronic ones. Ive even tinkered with the darkside files and rooted and ditched this and that hoping things would somehow be better. But, after my phone wouldnt receive calls, go into roam when im 10 feet away from the Airave and regularly experience data lockup I put my foot down with Sprint and they sent me a replacement phone the other day. Its a refurbished unit and I really get the warm and fuzzy feeling knowing im getting a unit which has had problems already and was returned! Today was the icing on the cake, the "new" phone shuts itself off/dies and needs a battery pull in order to reboot! So, I sicked the woman on them this evening because she can be ruthless over the phone when things need to get done. Her Moment has been every bit the trouble maker mine has and has been replaced once with a actual NEW unit already. Its been making calls while sitting on her desk at work without even being touched. I can see a butt call from time to time but ghost calls to random people in her contact list is hard to understand. Never the less, we are both getting brand new Moments from Sprint on Monday. Lets hope they are trouble free.

I dont know if Sprint is the root of all these issues or if its the Android OS that needs more work. When I lived north of San Antonio Sprint kicked ass over there. I never had a problem. Now that ive moved to eastern North Carolina (where admittedly the coverage is rather on the poor side.. have a look at the coverage maps) im starting to hate these phones. Do the folks with Verizon using Droids and other Android OS phones have all these problems too? I like Android over the rest of the competition because I like to tinker more than talk on the phone and going to most of the other phones you dont get to play nearly as much. Or,,, is there simply a problem with the Android platform and the problems will never go away?

Ive had so many issues that Sprint has released us from our contract already and as much as I hate the idea of switching to Verizon (excellent coverage in this area) im about ready to go back and bend over financially for them.

Im going to submit this post even though i know its just more of a rant. Thanks for reading.

We are starting to get the same way with our Moments. My wife has had her ribbon to the keyboard replaced twice, as well as the mic and speaker replaced. She just received a new phone yesterday (not sure if it's a refurb) and now the screen will randomly light up on it's own. While she was on the phone with Sprint it hung up on it's own, wasn't a dropped call, it literly locked up.

I had email issues in the past with mine, and now I have the air plane mode problem.

I like the App market and all, but I told my wife I'm getting ready to go back to my BB. It worked with no problems!

I have had it with the Moment also. Today I will receive my 5th Samsung Moment from the NC corporate store in Cary. And yesterday they told me that if there is anything wrong with it that they would not have a problem "Upgrading" me to the Hero...

So let me get this straight, I bought this thing at full price ($179 sticker after all rebates), and haven't been able to utilize this thing fully during the entire time that I have owned it (nearly 8 months). And now they want to upgrade me to a phone that is slower, has a crappier screen, doesn't have a keyboard, has a trackball, is too small to type on, is probably going to be discontinued soon, and generally has worse specs than the Moment on every aspect? I laughed at the guy that offered me that "upgrade." All I can say is that they better sweeten the pot with the Evo, b/c I'm not going to abandon the $75ish I have spent in the Android market... unless they want to refund that money to me.

As for your question about whether or not the general Moment problems are the fault of Sprint or Android? Android has run pretty solid on most of its other phones, and if it were Sprint's problem then many of these issues would occurs across different platforms. Nah, the bulk of the phone's problems are hardware related and the blame can be rested on the shoulders of Samsung. Although the "ghost" calls that you talked about seem to be a strange software glitch.

Considering a company just released a phone that being held causes the antenna to short out, I'm going to it is pretty easy to believe. :D

Now how you can blame Android for hardware defects is just crazy, how did you make that leap of logic?

I never blamed android, i just wonder where the root of the problem is. Have a look at any of the other forum sections for android phones and read about all the various problems other users are having and ask youself.... is it the OS or the hardware?

As I said before ill stick to android because i like to tinker. I dont think its asking too much to be sold a phone that actually works. I give them a hunk of money every month that works just fine.

If the Android OS was at fault then the issues would be consistent across different phones, and they aren't. Now Android isn't perfect, but it also doesn't randomly call people either.

You must of just had a bad phone. I haven't had any issues like that with my Moment, on any version of Android it was running. The most I've had an issue with the Moment, aside from the battery life my data would lock up every now and then. No phone is perfect though, just ask Blackberry users how many times they need to take out their battery and how long it takes to start up the phone. Ask Iphone 4 users how to hold the phone correctly. :D

Since my boss just got an EVO and I set it up for him I've been considering getting one too, so I've been over in that forum reading about all its problems. Dust getting under the screen, screen falling out, back light problems, horrible battery life, and it's been out about a month. The rants over there sound just like this place.

Only two groups of folks get perfect phones: The ones who don't know enough about them to know when something is broken and iPhone users. You could have iPhones exploding in people's hands and they'd still tell you about how great it is.

Well everyone is not a phone geek. If it answers calls and plays the next coolest free game...oh yeah and has a fart app, 99% of the user base is happy.

Actually, both my wife and I have Moments and as far as I can tell hers has zero issues. No battery issues, no airplane mode issue, no GPS issue, nothing. We both got ours last November and other than a shortened battery life, mine doesn't have any issues either, but mines rooted. Her's is bone stock. Other than phone calls the only other things she uses it for is to text me and to tether on her laptop and she sometimes does a lot of that.

We're lucky I guess.

Yeah you are.
I picked up my 5th Samsung Moment today. Tried to check the GPS as soon as I walked out the door and it's off by 1/2 mile... "maybe that will resolve itself" I told myself.

Got it home set up everything. Started downloading apps and, while they are queued, took out the trash... I just came back and found my phone in CDMA data lockup.:(

I came from a BB Curve 8330 to the Moment. I made the change because I wanted a touch screen and liked the idea of the Market. My Curve didn't take any longer then my Moment does to boot up, and I rarely had to pull my battery. I've had a lot more issues with my Moment compared to my Black Berry. I've been thinking of going back to a BB, it might not be the best phones on the market, but they work and are reliable.

If it's off by a half mile it sounds like it's triangulating cell towers. Is "Use wireless networks" in Location and Security turned on or off?

I dunno whether to be happy or PO'd. This phone seems to very very very easily go into CDMA lockup. It has gone into CDMA lockup 3 times so far, and twice it has bounced out of lockup and back to normal. Now it has locked up for a third time (at this pace I doubt I will get my apps downloaded from the market tonight). We'll see if it bounces back again:rolleyes:

Edit: It bounced back again! I think I may be semi less than furious with this phone :)
Tomorrow I will really hit the GPS issues hard though...
