Help Voice Command

Wondering if it's possible to use a bluetooth headset to tell my phone what to do. such as make a phone call, create and send a text message/email. anything like that possible?

Not yet. Supposedly it will be supported in Froyo

Voice command IS NOT the same as voice dial. Command comes from the Win mobile world while voice dial has been std on most phones since ????? [except for the Palm Pre - which is why I now own an EVO] Froyo/2.2 will supposedly enable voice dial over blue tooth, but I don't think I've seen anything about command. Is there any Android app that provides voice command function?

Yeah Voice Dial is coming in Froyo (Android 2.2) but it is "voice dial" so folks will have to hack it or better, write an app to do voice command. There ARE voice apps out there so you can be like "text sally" and it will open up msgs and compose a new one to sally, but they are all specific apps not generic like for any app/os feature, so it is a ways off I fear.

=/ that sucks. thought it'd be cool to use a bluetooth to send texts and have them read back w/out ever touching the phone.

oh well, just means i still don't have a reason to get a bluetooth head piece.

The BlueAnt Q1 and T1 have an app in the market for download that enables "spoken text messages" over bluetooth. I have both devices, currently using the T1 since this one announces incoming callers by name, the Q1 does not have that feature yet.

Please explain... "Froyo?"
I just got a verizon droid eris, which I really like.
EXCEPT, I can not initiate a call from the blue tooth.
I've heard that it is expected to be in the next software upgrade.
Can anyone confirm that?
Short of that, I am toying with shelling out $100 to upgrade to a Droid Incredible.
Anythoughts from the peanut gallery?

Froyo IS the next upgrade. Google likes to name their Android updates as some sort of food item. So you have things like Cupcake, the just completed Froyo, and after that there will be Gingerbread. And yes, one of the things in Froyo is bluetooth voice stuff. So wait for your update and hopefully you will be good to go. That might take awhile though. The phone makers have to incorporate Froyo into whatever custom OS they have running. So it's not an overnight process. Could take months actually. So be patient. Also, if you own an Eris, you should check out the Driod Eris forum rather then the EVO one. While they are both made by HTC, any updates to Froyo could be at different timeframes. Hope that helps!

i'm sure he just searched for voice command, android is android so any topic here could help him with his own phone.

I'd assist you in the Eris vs Incredible, but I'm on Sprint and have really no idea about VZW phones.

Okay, just checked. Yes its a $10 ap, but it doesn't make my Bluetooth able to initiate a call, so its not what I'm looking for.

I have discovered, "Talk", which lets me "speak a text message", VS typing it. And really quite accurate.

So let me get this straight, a Verizon Droid is different from another company's Droid?

I think you might be confusing Android with the Droid brand name. While all Droid phones are running the Android operating system, the "Droid" brand name is something Verizon uses to refer to their current Android lineup. So you have "Droid" phones made by Motorola, but you also have ones made by HTC, a completely different company. It is confusing, I agree. But that is the way they have gone about things over at Verizon.

To make things even more confusing, the Android platform is an open one and different phone manufactures put different user interfaces over the top of basic Google Android. So you end up having all these different looking Android interfaces, rather then just one single one. And because of these different user interfaces, you have to wait for the phone maker themselves to update to Froyo since they are not running stock Android. So there's an extra layer in there. In some cases, some phones won't be updated at all. (Well, not officially anyway). So the situation with upgrades can get a little complex.

Uh no. He is waiting for the Froyo update so he can voice dial from bluetooth and android is NOT android when there are all these different user interfaces running on top of Android. It's entirely up to the phone maker as to when (or even if) a particular device they make gets the froyo update.

Unless you are running stock Android on your device. But that's a completely different discussion.

i said he probably searched for Voice Command or Voice Dial and this thread popped up so he read it. And commented, hoping to find info about it that I didn't ask.

and Android 2.1 on my HTC is the same as Android 2.1 on a Motorola or Samsung, they all just have different UIs over them, but underneath it all, it's still Android 2.1, so software for one, will work for the other.

Uh..no. But you go right ahead and install a Samsung or Motorola Froyo on your HTC and see what you get.

Yes, There is a company called Voice Assist at www.voiceassist.com.
You can text, send and recieve and (listen to your email ) reply to your email and it will be transcribed into words on the other end. You can also update your Facebook and Twitter (all by voice ) I use it all the time. I hope this helps.
