Help got a new droid - first time android user - facebook issue

I just got it to work for me!! So I hope this works for you guys too... If you login on the mobile web it asks for your mobile phone number, or email address. On the Facebook APP it only asks for your email address, but I figured what the heck and put in my mobile phone number and facebook password and IT WORKED! So if you have a mobile phone number associated with your facebook account try it and let me know!

This FB thing is driving me insane! I kept getting the same error as everyone else when trying to login. I tried logging into FB using my wife's info and it worked fine. I logged out as her and tried logging back in as me...no go. I got to thinking and figured out that my wife and I have a shared gmail account and this is the account that I used to set up my Droid. This is the same gmail account that she logs into FB with - I use another gmail account for my FB. So, I reset the phone to factory settings and set it up using my gmail account that I use for FB hoping this would work...NOPE. Somebody please figure this thing out.

Even after all of this, I can still login as my wife, but not as me.

Try this. Using my email creds worked fine at first but late last night FB started hatin' on me and wouldn't let me log in. It kept giving me the error during the login BS. Could not get logged in for over twelve hours. This worked for me:

FB Mobile users also have the option accessing their account with their mobile number. I put my mobile number in and was successfully able to log in to FB. Give that a shot and let me know if it worked for you...Cheers

keep in mind.. i think most of the folks having issues are experiencing issues with the app on the phone, not the website.

This is definitely a FB Droid App bug. I have noticed a lot of people had changed their email and unable to log in vi Droid FB App. Seems like the Droid FB App is not hitting the updated login server, or FB server isn't sync globally.

I am having the same problem with my Droid. I cannot log on with the app. that came with the phone. I signed up for an acct. after I got my phone. I also added a username, changed password. I can log in if I go through the browser, but not the app. I tried sync. the app. in settings> accts./syn. and it still did not work. Anyone have anything else.

I've been scouring the internet in search of a fix for this problem. I've noticed a patten to it in that people that have recently changed their username/password OR have recently signed up for Facebook (like myself) are the ones getting this issue.

The problem is made worse because naturally we change our login info more to try to fix it. I'm pretty sure the problem lies in how infrequent the app servers update. I realized this about 6am this morning, and am still trying off and on to sign on. I think the key will be to leave your info alone on FB and just wait some time.

I'll update and let people know how it goes.

I got my facebook to work after I believe I was having the same issues as others. What I recommend trying is:

1) login into facebook via a computer
2) Go to Setting - Mobile
3) Go through the instructions on adding a mobile number

Also, to make this work, I think you have to be able to make sure you don't have Block Premium SMS through Verizon. Go to your account services with Verizon and make sure this is not checked.

Hope this info might help.

I've got a similar problem here. When I first got my Droid on Friday, I couldn't sign in to Facebook with the same error others have gotten. Then after several tries over several hours, it eventually worked. Earlier today I noticed that I wasn't receiving FB updates so I logged out and tried to log back in. Since then I haven't been able to sign in again. I get the same old error. There's a thread about this on the motorola support forum here: https://supportforums.motorola.com/message/64007#64007

Thus far, no solution

Why do you guys want to use that app anyway? It sucks... really bad.

Why not just Bookmark the Facebook Mobile site, then add the bookmark to one of the screens? This way, that *** little widget isn't burning up your battery.

I don't want the app to work for the ability to view facebok. The touch.facebook.com page works better for that. I want it to work so that I can sync my FB contacts to my phone...

Btw I still cannot login. It has been about 28 hours since I last updated my login info. Apparently the app people are aware of the problem and are working on a fix though. (They've posted it on the Facebook for Android app page)

why would that widget burn up your battery?

Widgets that pull data every so often burn up your battery. Stuff like WeatherBug, the Weather Channel, etc. Look it up on the Motorola Droid support forums. One of the devs states himself that apps not properly coded for Android 2.0 burn through the battery quick. Every time they pull data to sync, it uses up more battery than actually leaving the app running in the background.

Ah. This might seem redundant, but have you made sure you're typing in your password right? It took me a minute to figure out I had to press 2 different buttons to either get a symbol or a capital letter.

Yeah it's the right password. This is actually a bug within the android app itself, not a user issue. They are currently working on a fix for it.

ohh the widget for facebook. i thought you meant the icon for the facebook app on the homescreen. i don't have the widget out for fb anyway cuz it takes up too much space. kinda pointless to have it i think. luckily, i dont have any apps as "widgets" on my home screen.
