Official GSM Hero 2.1 Thread

Hello All,

India has got 2.1 update. It was scheduled to roll out on July 10th. Fortunately setting the date to July 10th has given me a popup asking me if I want to download 2.1 ;) you might wanna try that.

2.1 as read is amazingly fast. Its been a hour since I updated and am still playing with it. I dont see speech to text option.. can anyone help? Thanks and hope you guys get 2.1 soon :) Namaskar

Boomboy,

India was released a couple of days ago as posted by vj and any future date (more than 2 weeks) will force the phone to check for an update. Glad you've got it though!

Silverback,

Nothing new here unfortunately. It's the standard response that HTC have given out for quite some time.

I'd brace myself for a bit of a wait if I were you though as '3' seem to be the runt of the litter when it comes to updates.

Logically speaking, tomorrow (29th) should see 2.1 rolling out for Europe...

Absolutely and that's what this official looking image claimed all along.

It would seem that there are some YouTube licensing issues in Belgium though which could delay the release there.

Hopefully it won't affect the rest of Europe as HTC seem to want to release this in Europe simultaneously.

Hi! I'm waiting for the 2.1 update on Three Mobile in the UK. I am yet to have any notification for downloading the Preliminary update. I'm guessing until I get that part it's pointless expecting the eclair update.

The most frustrating part of this is trying to get any information from the customer services dept at Three. I recently received an email from HTC claiming that the update was being supplied to operators for them to check etc before rolling it out. However upon contacting Three, nobody on their call desks knew anything about the update or any plans to release one. I frustratedly asked if they could put me through to a department that might have an idea about it, I was told that my issue would be forwarded to the appropriate dept and they would get back to me. That was on Friday just gone and I'm still waiting.....

Any news from Orange re update. Do we on Orange have to wait for 1st OTA update before we can get 2.1?

Who knows ... the HTC support website won't allow us (on Orange UK) to install the 2.73.405.5 update which they say is necessary for the 1st OTA so it's possible that our current ROM doesn't need the 1st OTA and will already accept the full 2.1 whenever it gets pushed out. Really little point hassling customer services (HTC or Orange) about it as they're unlikely to be told anything about it until the updates hit the handsets and cause all sorts of new problems!

:p

Seriously people, lets have some positive vibes! I'm putting away my pitchfork until Wednesday :D

Wouldn't it be logical for HTC to actually communicate with their user community, via one of the variety of channels they have available, to stop what must be hundreds of emails a day from customers asking when the 2.1 upgrade is going to be released ?

Wouldn't it also be logical to inform the carriers that there even is an upgrade in the pipeline ?

Not being funny, but for a company that produces high tech communication devices, they're pretty crap at communicating !

Looking forward to my update tomorrow ;)

Agreed. I'm not going to reiterate myself, but this has been my biggest bugbear with HTC. When people have been waiting for this update since (about) last November the odd post would have gone along way.

Tweeting/Facebook posting about partying and corporate awards feels like they're just rubbing our faces in it.

Looking forward to my update tomorrow ;)

Good man! :D
