Never got notice of the update, and when I manually checked, it said it didn't exist. So, I took the advice from another thread and switched on my WiFi and checked again. Voila! It said the update was available and asked if I wanted to download it. I did so within a couple of minutes via WiFi and did the update. I was plugged in to power the whole time and everything ran smoothly. It didn't take very long. It reloaded fine, including my old wallpaper, but then I saw 5 widgets had problems loading: all of my "beautiful" widgets as well as the Android voicemail icon. I just deleted them then re-added them.
What else I noticed (also mentioned earlier in this thread):
- Icon changed for QuickOffice
- Lost my Android wallpapers
- Lost the ability to use the upper characters on my virtual keyboard when holding down the key
- Must have updated Qik because I can't uninstall "Qik for HTC Evo" from the downloads in Marketplace
- ShootMe no longer works (says I have to have ROOT access)
- I unplugged the phone, and the battery still showed 100%. It used to drop to 98% immediately. Dropped down to 98% within 3 minutes tho. Jury is still out on the battery issue ...
My hardware version is 0002. Phone is not rooted.
NOTE: RE-BOOTING THE PHONE FIXED THE VIRTUAL KEYBOARD ISSUE. If you are having that problem (unable to use upper characters on key press hold), then shut down your phone and re-start it. Everything was fine once I did that.
After the update, I did another manual check for the update and it said my phone was up to date. (Obviously, from reading about brick problems this morning, I wouldn't have installed/downloaded it again, but I was curious to see if it showed I was updated properly).
Oh yeah, forgot to mention I tested for the touchscreen issue, and everything was fine now. I had had it lock up previously when I'd had it on my desk and I tried to slide down the notification bar. All seems to be good now. I tested with DRAW and could draw a line everywhere on the screen (including right along the edges) without any dropouts on the lines.
