Should I get an Evo now or wait?

I think the OP's original intention was to know if the bugs have been worked out of the evo sufficiently to warrant buying it. Not suggestions on buying other android based phones. Keeping to the OP's original theme, I would speculate that this next batch should have a much improved build. I'm finally buying one the next time it goes on sale on sprint.com.

I have been with Sprint for a while and can upgrade my phone. I was wondering if I should just go ahead and get an Evo or should I wait about a month for the dust to settle with all the needed updates. I have been reading posts about the Evo, and although there seems to be a few issues many of them seem to easily taken care of. I know very little about the Android Operating System so I thought it would be in my best interest to tap into the collective intelligence of this forum. Thank you!
Honestly Fam...I Say U Wait...I LOVE My Evo BUT Theres A Whole Lot Of Issuses That Needs To Be Ironed Out. I Mean Dont Get Me Wrong, This Is By Far The Best Device Ive Ever Owned But Then Again Ive Never Had So Many Problems With A Phone..As U Can See In The Forums, Theres Quite A Bit Of Issuses..So, Wait On It...It Aint Going Nowhere

If you are a tech geek, like alot of us, the few minor issues that an Evo may, or may not have, will be minor. I want what most here consider the best smart phone out there right now. Granted, a new phone comes out almost every week, that is better(or not) than the previous one, but for right now, the Evo is, "the phone"!
IMHO! :D

I think I'm going to go ahead and get an Evo, but where do you the Evo will be in 30 days? Do you think a majority of its issues will be resolved or will more come to the surface?

With 30 days left you'll at least have a chance to try out the Moto Droid when it comes out and still have a chance to return your EVO. Waiting is always easier said than done. Chances are most of the differences you'll never notice unless you had while with the other phones. But if you get a good 4g signal all that goes out the window with the browsing experience and the EVO has at least a few things that the other phones lack whether it be flash camera (Samsung) 4g (everything) Front camera (Droid x) HDMI (Samsung, Iphone) Android (Iphone), Browser text formatting (Droid, ???). The EVO is the most well rounded/ all inclusive of the bunch for sure though it could use some minor polishing.

But as we saw with the Iphone, don't buy into the fantasy land spec phone that has not been released and therefore has little/no flaws. When they come out, ALL of them will have some problems.

I think once it's all said and done, the EVO will rise to the top.

I'm a HeRo owner, and I'm thinking about getting my hands on an EVO. Lets face it the HeRo is a good phone but it's tooooooo slow for me. EVO has everything the HeRo lacks so my question to you is it really $worth$ getting or should I wait for "The Next Best Thing" I don't desire nor feel the need for an iPhone... Yes it's a great phone but I've been there done that, it's not for me...

Thanks Jay

It's worth it, but if I can offer up a suggestion, is to wait a few weeks until all the issues are ironed out. I know there are new phones still being bought with the light leakage issue and I'm sure there are other issues being worked on.

Therefore you can feel 100% comfortable with your purchase.

The Evo's a very nice phone and will be plenty fast and featured enough to not make me want the next best thing for a while. Next best in the 12-24 month timeframe might include LTE (not Sprint - gotta go somewhere else for that and pay more for it), additional processor speed (but it may not matter given that even 4G networks aren't going to be able to deliver data that makes even a 1Ghz processor the bottleneck - oh and more in the future will cost more), and a few tweaks on things already being done by Evo. I wouldn't wait. You can always buy something later with an upgrade.

iPhone on ATT right now - don't even go there....

There is always going to be a new kid on the block. Write down your wants in a new phone then look at the EVO if it meets your criteria get it.

No one can tell you "to" get one, you have to make that decision for yourself.

For me my criteria was I wanted a phone with the same size screen or larger as my PSP that could play video and podCast and wasn't a windows phone.

If you're eligible for an upgrade, it's worth the money. It's not worth full price imo. Also, I say wait it out a bit until they've fixed all the little problems...

Seeing how Sprint now has them back in stock and it's been over 12 hours of being in stock on their website. My hope is they have gotten in brand new batches that have fixed the hardware issues.

I just ordered mine last night so I get a brand new fresh 30 days to play with it. It will be my 4th EVO.

I came from the Hero. The EVO is the hero with all the problems fixed and screen big enough to hit the right keys when typing and a huge hardware upgrade! I love it and have never looked back!

thats good to hear. i have big hands so on the HeRo typing has been an issue, I use Swype It's a bit annoying but I'd like to go back to tapping. I'm sure a 4" screen helps thanks for the insight glad to here you like the upgrade...

Robo, it doesn't work that way. The intent of the 30 day policy is to give people the ability to try Sprint(new customers) and/or to try a new device(People like you) to see if they like the service or device. IOW, your 30 days does not start over just because you got a new handset due to hardware issues. Once your 30 days passes, you will be bound by your contract and you will be "stuck" with the handset(EVO in this case). Now if you have hardware issues beyond 30 days, then obviously you can get them worked out thru warranty or insurance/service claims. But you will not be able to jump ship(service or device) after your initial 30 days expires. The big difference after the 30 days expires is they are only required to give you a refurbished handset(or even a similar handset!!!!....not even an EVO...it is in the writing).

To the OP.....it is VERY worth it. I bought two at full price!!! Don't regret it one bit!

Definitely post updates on the new handset. I have 9 days left.

Would you please return yours? I'm assuming you are posting from it, and I can tell you, something is wrong with your keyboard.

To OP: Unless the galaxy is a possibillity for you (as a want), I would go now. Nothing is needed on this phone that would make me wait. If you have one of the issues (such as your screen), that is what warranty/insurance is for.

Well you right, but wrong in my case. I cancelled my service 2 days ago with in the 30 days (and lost my number). Last night I ordered a brand new ($300 have to mail in the rebate) EVO. So yes my 30 days will start over the day I activate the phone.
