System Upgrade 1.47.651..1 (21.43 MB) Now Available

i don't think so, this is exactly what happens to my phone when i try that. this is before the update. i am installing the update as i type. i will not try this after its updated. i see no point. that trick was from the hero anyway. i saw no battery improvements by doing that, just a messed up phone.

i would just leave that alone if i were you.

When the phone was released a few weeks ago, many people reported having success by changing this configuration. I don't think it will mess anything up.

update finished! took about 7 minutes to complete from start to finish. right away found that the phone is a little quicker, web browsing through wifi is definitely faster and Qik is working a LOT better (through wifi at least, probably due to the faster speed). I didnt have any widgets that got deleted off my home screens except Qik since it was updated.

So far so good!

I think my EVO was semi-bricked (Meaning phone works but features are broken.

No such thing as a semi-brick, friend ;)

The phone is one of two things: One either has some kind of bare minimum access and usability from the phone (and can reload a prior ROM, image, something--if necessary), or... it's a brick. :) There's no in between.

For your battery issues, you also might want to check on Google Talk; reports are that it's getting turned back on with the update.

you do realize that 2 people just reported issues after trying this method right?

i have a release day version 2 phone. i was like the 5th guy at my store that morning that got one. i've been reading about this method since that day. this fix has not helped my phone at all. it slowed it down and after some network switches would no longer function. and it did not improve any battery life.

it may have not done anything to yours, but it did to mine. and it definitely did not make anything better, which many have reported.

oh and i could recreate this many times over. even after pulling out the battery and then applying again.

my problem with this method is it only shows gsm after the force close. this is when everything works strange. and even after doing this and then going back in to recheck, after the force close it still says gsm. i suspect there is a glitch when reading the radio band from the menu key.

i've tried it many times and read about how to do it from many people. it does nothing for me. besides my battery is good :)

i also thought it was reported that updating your prl to the latest takes care of the issue anyway.

how are you guys seeing an exact % of battery left?

I only know how to go to Settings>About Phone>Battery and then I see how many bars it has out of 10

currently at 4 bars, been off the charger for over 14 hours with normal use, I'm excited!

Download a battery percentage app from the app market. The one I was using was made to drain the least amount of battery, while still being able to show up on the status bar. The one I was using is called batteryminder (I think. It's something like that, but it says in the description that it doesn't drain the battery like other apps). Worked perfect on my EVO...until I downloaded the software update and it bricked!...LOL.

aaaaaaaand this is why any time I see an OTA update pop up on any phone that I can postpone it on, I do. ...for at least a week or until I stop hearing the screams...

Thanks, CCP, for patching an MMO so horribly that it rendered machines useless for people who installed the patch as soon as it released. My patch paranoia is intense now. (lol deleted boot.ini lol)

Ok, thanks.

I guess I don't see the need for doing that. No reason to have something else running when I can just look to see how many bars out of 10 I have.. ha.

I just got here awhile ago from running around all day in search of a replacement evo for my bricked one. Finally got one! YAY!! and I just installed this new upgrade without a hitch. Held my breath, but all went well. I don't know yet what it has accomplished other than fixing my slight grounding issue, but at least I have a shiny new WORKING evo. YAY!
