Official GSM Hero 2.1 Thread

So do none of the payed for apps work at all? I was just about to do it but if i cant use my apps then i might not. :(

Are you saying if i install the generic rom on my 3uk hero and then update it to 2.1 I won't be able to see or download paid apps?

***update*** This problem now seems to have been a general problem with the marketplace after the 2.1 update and has now been fixed, with all apps now showing in marketplace.

Thanks to sean.ellingham for spotting that. :)

Generic unbranded HTC Hero rom - which is here: [link removed]

Evening all, apologies for being a vile lurker but this has brought me out of the woodwork!!

Any ideas where to get the ROM from now this link has gone? I'm sick of waiting for the 2.1 update and was gonna get the unbranded ROM until the official Orange one comes out.

On the subject of Orange, I'm gonna post this in the Orange-specific forum but I just rang them, hoping to have this rumour confirmed about the first update being released tonight at midnight and, as someone else said, the woman checked with the tech team (she didn't even know what the Hero was and said it might be discontinued with Orange support... fine, gimme a free Desire then :D) and they said they're waiting for HTC to give them a version so they can personalise and they're aiming for September.

As much as I love HTC and their products, this update debacle has been laughable and handled so badly.

@Moko76, may sound like a stupid question, but can you rebrand the phone to your provider after using the method you described?

Yes, there should be no problem doing that. The stock roms for Orange, 3 and T-mobile can be found on the htc website under the support tab. HTC will ask you to put in the serial number of your phone (underneath the battery) to confirm that you are downloading the right software for your device.

Always Back up your data and contacts before doing anything though.

Thanks kids :D too late to try it tonight but I'm gonna give it a whirl tomorrow and then reflash when Orange finally decide to surgically remove their thumb from their arse - gotta love Google sync.

I wish they wouldn't brand firmware so we could just all have one update, one release date... I'm sure MLK had a dream about this...

This has been posted on the HTC Hero Facebook page.

Hi Orange buddies, i spoke to 3 different Orange customer reps today 30th June 2010 and they said the first update will be ready by midnight today so make sure you connected to wi-fi or internet. And the second can follow through any time after.

Lets hope so.

Well it's gone midnight, and nothing! Am I being a little too optimistic here :)
