Help Anyone return an Evo because the bottom screen is separating

That is great news. Mine is rapidly getting worse. I noticed today the entire bottom now has detached and is even on both sides - above the bezel. Before it was only the bottom right that was raised. I baby my phone and have never dropped it. Not even a scratch.

I stopped by RS on the way home today and they had never heard of the issue and looked at me like I was crazy for wanting to return/exchange the phone. I showed them the screen separation but it felt they didn't really understand what is going on. I tried to show them the difference from top to bottom and they noticed it but didn't seem like it was that bad. I couldn't replicate the grounding issue that happens to me all the time. Lucky me.

I also spoke to HTC today (started a thread because I didn't see this one) and they told me someone from escalations will be contacting me. Is that what happened with you ARR22? What did you say to get a new one?

I just told them that I have been a loyal HTC customer for many years, (Mogul,Touch,Touch Diamond, Touch Pro, Touch Pro 2, Incredible work phone, and now EVO) I must have emailed them 10 or more times and called them even more. Until I finally talked to some one who cared. Being persistent is the key. Good luck.

So, yesterday, I received my second Evo since my first one had grounding issues, light leakage, sinking power button, and horrible battery life.

The one I got yesterday has great battery life, no power button issues, but (not to my surprise) after taking my body glove off to inspect it, MY SCREEN STILL HAS LIGHT LEAKAGE AND IS ABOVE THE BEZEL!

Yay....

My question is, is this enough to return the phone and have them replace it again...

Of course it is. You shouldnt let HTC off the hook with there shitty ass quality control. It will get worst just like mine. Then you might lose screen sensitivity like I did. Go get another one ASAP!!! You forked over the cash you deserve better.

Thanks for the feedback, always nice to get that boost which just might put me over the edge and force them to cough up another one. Getting sick of going to Sprint, been there 5 times in the last 2 weeks and they're getting really shitty. Gonna be fun to yell at em this time, getting sick of this. I deserve a working phone! LOL

I have slight light leakage going on. Up the left side and below the home buttons. I'm a new Sprint customer and my 30 days are up July 20th. I am waiting before I get a replacement like on July 15th. Hopefully the newer batches are better.

If I don't feel satisfied in 5 days with the EVO, I'm going to Verizon with the Droid X. I really like the EVO but the light leakage and screen seperation I am not a big fan of at all.

Have you had any screen separation? Light leakage does not mean it will separate necessarily.

I'm unsure about the screen separation. There is a small gap between the screen and the bottom ledge which is collecting dust. But I don't know if this is normal or if the screen is moving. It's very slight right now.

I didn't have the light leakage originally. It seems to be creeping up on me slowly and surely. Which is my fear that it will only get worse.

Well keep an eye on it and go with your gut. They are used to getting returns for that.

I am also in a similar situation and I cannot decide what to do. My light leakage is not that bad, and I can almost make it go away by pushing down on the glass, but thats actually what worries me, I can push down on the glass and it moves enough to make the light leakage go away....

Same thing. I pushed down on the glass and it went away. Then I told myself maybe I should stop pushing down on the glass and just get a different case that hides the slight light leakage.

My Gut is to wait until the last day (two weeks) before asking for a new EVO at Best Buy.

I do have the BB insurance, which would cover light leakage, etc. But If I do use it after my 30 days I have to wait to get it shipped out. I would prefer to exchange it and try out a hopefully newer make, and if I have issues with that, either use the warranty or Best Buy insurance later.

Can not agree with ya more about Sprint. Got my phone on the 10th that I ordered from them over the phone. A few days later I noticed the screen coming up. On the 23rd it was bad enough that I jumped through all the hoops of go there, go here, back back there to get in line for a replacement. I called them on the 23rd and again on the 28th to ensure I was indeed in the queue for a replacement and both times I was assured I was and I would have a new phone to inspect before my 30-day period was up.

I called yesterday since I was with a week of the 30-day period ending. This time the rep said that I was never place in line for a replacement at all. The had my ticket there and I was approved for a replacement but it was never processed. She asked if I wanted it processed now but she said there was no way I would get it before the 30-day period was up. I declined and cancel the account and the phone is going back.

I can live with all the other issues the phone had until fixes came out such as the poor video quality, the 30fps issue, the fact that the FM radio on my phone does not get reception unless you partially pull headset out ( I used 4 headsets and same all around), the fact that the audio from the external speaker breaks up if the volume is any greater than half which is really not loud enough to use the speaker phone. I am not saying all phones have these issues but the one I have does and as I stated I could have lived with them all.

The screen issue is unacceptable. I have light leakage and screen separation all along the bottom edge of the screen now and I am sure it is going to get worse in the near future. All I can think of is they used a bad batch of glue on a certain run and I was unfortunate enough to get one. The fact that I was intentionally or unintentionally misled about being placed in line really irks me. Had I been placed on the 23rd when I was supposed to have been I would have gotten the replacement in time to have the phone for at least a week before having to make a final decision. I do not like feeling that I was being played into being trapped into a 2-year contract. Lord knows what kind of support I would have gotten then.

BTW I came to Sprint from T-Mobile. I may have been a little mor forgiving if I was already a current customer. I would go to HTC but I would not expect anything from them

Sometimes I think the speed of how the smart phone market is evolving is a little too fast. It is great for competition but bad for the consumer when shortcuts are made in QA, testing, etc to push out an item so the company can get to work on their latest/greatest item to keep up with the other companies.

I like the EVO and I may go back to it in the future assuming that something else has not caught my eye. :D

This is what happened to me. Started out with leakage under the search button then under the home button and now it is all along the bottom of the screen and the glass is above the bevel along the entire bottom of the screen and along about 20-25% of both lower sides.

I got two new Evos yesterday; one is perfect and the other has the light leakage on the bottom edge. If I push down on the glass slightly, it goes away. I'm confident the hairdryer/clamp trick would solve the problem and I could live with that HOWEVER there's another defect on my phone. The circle around the 'home' button on the bottom has a small gap at the bottom, allowing a pinhole sized light to penetrate through. It's not noticable in a brightly lit room, however at night it's pretty bad and it's definitely not something I consider acceptable. It's not the end of the world, however seeing it next to a nearly perfect EVO and it's pretty obvious there's a problem.

I'm currently returning this phone through the retailer I purchased it from, and I'm crossing my fingers that the replacement is perfect just like the other phone I have. What if this problem happens again? How does the 1 year HTC warranty work?

and what are the chances that your next replacement phone won't have this problem. Mine didn't until last night. Good luck with the replacement, but that really skirts the larger issue here which is more than likely adhesive failure. It will happen to all these phones if that is the case.

I just picked up my replacement phone yesterday for this same reason, and i just noticed today that the new one has the same problem. WTF now.....

mine is dated 6-23-10, and has no light leakage at all,and the screen is perfectly flush.
we also have 2 black ones in the family with no light leakage and perfectly flush, so I guess i am a lucky guy!

I just got my replacement. It's dated 6/22/10; there's some very slight leakage on the bottom edge - almost impossible to see unless you're in a very dark room. I'm extremely picky, however I'm not returning this since it's really not that bad - it's not perfect like my other EVO, but it's so minor that it's not worth complaining over.

The bottom part of the screen sits slightly higher than is does on the top of the screen. If there are any major problems, there is a one year warranty from HTC which should cover it. Hopefully by then HTC will figure out how to adhere the glass to the rest of the phone, or have some repair procedure available.

I also just noticed some LED bleed from the bottom of the screen. It's not leakage from the LEDs for the soft button lighting; instead it's the LEDs for the screen backlighting. On a white page, I can see spots from the individual LEDs across the bottom of the screen. It's only noticable on an all-white screen; if there's a black border on the bottom (like the main screen in the messaging application) it's not a problem. I'm going to wait this out and see if it gets worse. I guess I got spoiled by RIM - I never had any screen/backlight/bleed issues with the two blackberries I owned. :)

I'm pretty happy with my EVO for now! It's a nice phone aside from these quirks. I'm going to take pictures and email HTC to see if they'll respond. I could always return to the retailer (wirefly), but I already did that once and I'd hate to do it again.

Well it looks like I have no choice but to return it. After one day of use, I have an entire column of pixels that are light blue. Good job on quality control, HTC. Am I just seeing a string of bad luck, or are there some serious quality issues with these phones? My wife's EVO is awesome - no problems whatsoever - no screen separation, no LCD backlight problems, no dead pixels.

I'll be getting my second replacmenet (third EVO) from the retailer. Fortunately their customer service has been nothing but excellent so far. I just hope that the retailer puts the pressure on HTC for sending out junk. It wastes their time and resources to process returns on new items because of build issues.

If you have light coming through at the edges then you have screen separation. I could press the screen down and make most of the light leakage go away on mine ... the screen should not move.

I returned my Evo yesterday on day 29 and got a brand new one ... build quality of my new one is significantly better than the first one .... screen fits properly, no light leakage, volume buttons are better and the power button is raised a little and much easier to press.

Maybe HTC is finally turning out Evos with good build quality ...
