Firefox getting closer

great news. Hopefully it actually goes somewhere this time (waited patiently on my touch pro 1 and 2, only to have those be abandoned)

did you try?

kind of want to but last i heard it was terrible. But its pre alpha so its expected

I'm very tempted, especially that they list a known Evo, but unlike some people already winging froyo ;) I haven't made time yet.

I especially intrigued that they're targeting desktop sync for not only bookmarks but also contacts as one of their design goals - very, very clever, ok.

Let me add, the text input is horrible at this point. it won't even show it as you type. just have to hope your spelling right. You can scroll around the input area to fix anything if edit. That's why the fight-right typo above and maybe mire in this post?

*Edit, post was done on the browser itself, see below for explanation of typo's and bad grammar!

Well that was bad enough I had to get on my computer and make a readable post! It's a nice interface and layout but so far the text input seems to be a big issue. Your unable to move the cursor around or even see the text as your typing it. You have to just wait till you type out whatever and then hit preview. If your typing somewhere that you can't preview then it's just hoping you got it right. I tried to edit the first post rather than make a second one but again on the browser you can't put a cursor on the input field so it's impossible to open an edit window and try to edit something. Thus the reason for two posts, no post count padding intended! I left the two there just to show what I ended up with...

No pinch-zoom. You have to double tap on an open area of the page to zoom in. I don't see any way to zoom back out. If you hit the back it'll just go back a page rather than zoom out.

Double tapping a link sometimes opens a popup asking if you'd like to open the page in a new tab or same window. For whatever reason it's not all the time.

Seems to be very fast and snappy though.

The "Sync" for Favs/Contacts/History is there but wouldn't work just yet. Said I needed something on my laptop but I don't see anything to add?

The side to side sliding is really nice. I like how it's hidden while browsing but a flick to the left or right will put out the side "drawer" Left has the tabs and history. Right has the favorite/home/forward/back buttons

It's very promising, but as said...it's still EARLY!!!

No rush - there's already 3 decent browsers for Android (the stock one, Dolphin and Skyfire) and perhaps more (I don't care any more - happy with Dolphin), so firefox can take its time and release a final 20meg build sometime in the next year or two when they've fixed those issues. (Is it still 20megs? lol!)

I just installed it. Seems pretty stable so far. Got some nice features. Slide to the side and it shows all your tabs on the left and your favs on the fight along with forward and back buttons

Pre-alpha warts or not, that sounds fab!

I've read on their site somewhere that they were adding pinch-zoom but rather than track down each specific again, I think the planning chart and the QA planning chart tell very interesting stories.

MANY thanks for the early report!

Is Dolphin Browser really that good? I tried it briefly on my X10 but, just use the default one, works fine for me. Might give it another go though.
Anyway back on topic. I was actually about to search to see if Firefox had been released for Android as I do love my FireFox :p. I was gonna try it out anyway but, I was put off by ScorpDX's post. And I can't run it anyway (damn X10 and 1.6). So hopefully when it is released, X10 owners can use it as well :p.

It's a great browser. It has gestures you can use, and you can swipe to either side of the screen to bring up a sidebar with bookmarks on the left, or on the right to toggle fullscreen. Really speeds up your browsing.
