5 "obscure" apps you use

Handscent is pretty obscure. I've heard of Handcent. Does Handscent deodorize?

I use Tricorder a lot, is that obscure enough? Downloaded it because it was "treky" but then realized that it had useful tools...just like a Tricorder!

Quick Profiles for changing volume and wifi and virtually any setting with one touch.
WiFi Tethering (non official). Obscure, depending on how you look at it.

1. Colossal Cave which is the original Adventure text game. I know I am dating myself but I was shocked that someone converted it to an app.
The dev did an outstanding job of converting it and it is exactly like I remember it without the 1200 baud dial up connection.

2. Phone My PC: It works well and I use it to help my two neices remotely fix their laptops when they're away at college.

3. Epocrates: I occasionally have to ID prescription pills based on their imprints and this not only does that but give you a picture of the pills also.

4. Paper Toss: Fun game that you can waste time on.

5. Dictionary.com: Great for those of us who have crappy spelling.

Mileage - track gas mileage / fuel costs
Budgetroid - Keep track of my bills / expenses
Shortyz - crossword puzzles / downloads new ones from the web everyday
Ultimate Faves - Not a home screen replacement but a cool app launcher
AudioManager - Control volume quick and easy

1. SMS wishes - set SMS to automatically send at a later time
2. Widget locker - put Widgets on your lockscreen
3. Smart shortcuts - organize apps into folders, but much nicer than stock folders
4. CalWidget - nice agenda widget in multiple sizes
5. Redboxer - find and reserve Redbox movies from your phone

There are so many other great ones, I just thought these were more obscure

I don't have 5 to list, just one. It's called Endomondo and it's an app I use to keep track of my running. It *accurately* uses GPS to track your route, distance, speed and time as well as calories burned. And it will give you updates at each mile as to your time (good info to have if you're trying to keep up a particular pace). It can also be used for biking or other activities, but I just use it for running. It's free!

Quick desk. This app can be used like a home replacement, but isn't really designed for that. Where it shines is that you can open it up (either a long press on the search key, or a double tap of the home key) on top of an already open app. You fill it with preset widgets and shortcuts, so your can access your gps or wifi toggles or control music without going to your home screen first.

This app will let you search for music by artist, album, song, etc. and then stream it live. You HAVE THE ABILITY to download songs to your phone but the developer puts up notice on first boot that all music needs to be deleted off of your SD Card after you listen to it...which is a bogus way for them to cover their asses...but I don't download anything with this app...

The reason I post it, is because when I'm in the car with my kids and they want to listen to a "particular" song...I can search for it and then play it though my car's speakers via 3.5mm aux jack. It really helps to keep kids singing in the car vs. fighting with each other! You fellow parents know what I'm talking about

- Quick Boot (available in the market for free) is a great app if you don't have a custom ROM that allows for reboot or reboot-recovery options. Just a small time saver.

- Google Voice! If you don't have Google voice yet...I'm not sure what you are waiting on...I heard it has opened up and is available to the masses now.

- Where (available in the market for free) is a great all-in-one application for finding a restaurant...movie times, reviews, trailers...cheapest gas stations near you, etc. Also includes widgets for voice search which I never use...but could see their value if you ever use voice search...I typically don't...

- Tapatalk...Love using this to check-in and post on the forums. It is much faster than using the web browser to keep informed with what's going on at Android Forums (or any of the other thousands of supported forums)

I tried quickdesk and was thoroughly unimpressed.

Speed dial old school. Lets you speed dial like on old dumb phones by dialing the number you set. For example, 1 send dials home for me.

US Constitution and We The People: A pair of references to America's founding documents. Not as much redundancy between the two as you might think.

• History Eraser- Erases search history from Market, Maps, etc...
• Rev3remote- I'm a huge fan of the Totally Rad Show and other Revision 3 internet shows.
• SkyDroid- Golf GPS.

Really "obscure"? None ofcourse! . But some of the less known ones:
DailyRoads Voyager (creates video and takes pictures at specified intervals)
GolfCard (the best golf scoring app for Android)
Palmary Weather (ported from iPhone, but this one is really nice!)
Startup Manager (don't start those daemons that have no reason to run!)
WiFi Keyboard (use your PC as a keyboard through a standard internet browser)

...and a number of Dutch apps that are not of interest to the international community

Can't think of 5, pretty much everything I use is discussed quite often on here.

When I installed this app, I spent a good hour running around my apt using the mag field mode to scan every electronic device I own.

Little did I know till I look back upon this event, is that this was prolly my dorkiest moment. I might have well been wearing the uniform

BigOven - App that leads to BigOven.com which is a great site for recipes and meal planning. The app will allow you to even list ingredients that you have and come up with a meal based on those ingredients.

OldTimeRadio - App allows you to stream old radio broadcasts of shows like The Shadow, Sam Spade, The Saint, etc. It is a lot of fun on car trips.

OurGroceries - Create and share shopping lists between multiple users. It will even update the list if someone adds to it.

Tone Picker - Much better way to select and set ringtones for your phone.

RadioTime - There are a few streaming radio apps out there, but this is the one that works best for me. Along with their website you can select preset stations and listen to just about any station from anywhere at any time. The along with Pandora helped me get rid of XM/Siruis.

For Sense UI users:

Footprints - I know that many have looked at this and wondered why HTC even bothered. It looks like a complete waste of space when you first look at it. However, if you look at it in conjunction with Google Nav and think of it more as a way of using pictures to geo tag your favorite locations then it is a great little app.

Are you on vacation and need to remember where your hotel is? Snap a photo of it using footprints and then just tap on the picture later to navigate back to it. Want to remember that great Japanese Steakhouse you ate at? Just snap a quick photo and you've saved it. Great and HIGHLY underrated app IMO.

Dunno how obscure they really are, but:

Volume Locker- It keeps me from constantly having to fix my phone's volume levels from when I accidentally hit the volume rocker.

Grocery iQ - Shared shopping list just like Our Groceries that OfTheDamned mentioned, but it allows you to create multiple separate lists. If Our Groceries allowed that I couldn't find how in the short time I tried it, it seemed to limit you to one list...

RideHopper - Ride wait times for amusement parks.

I don't think any of the rest could even be considered slightly obscure...

What a great app, thanks OTD - and thanks to the OP for the thread.
I listen to old time radio all the time via the 'Listen' app. And I've done several searches in the market for other podcasters that would have a better/different selection than Listen does for the old stuff. It never even occurred to me to search for an app with 'old time radio' as the actual name (too simple I guess).

1. AndroidPIT- A blog type app where they review 1 app/game a day. Excellent reviews and they even have a link on every review to go directly to the app in the market. Discovered many cool apps with this.

2.PS3 Trophies- the best app to login to PSN and see what friends are online and what they're playing. You can view games and trophies of your friends as well.

3. Screebl PRO- comes with free version as well. One of my favourite apps. Monitors the orientation of your phone and prevents the phones screen from blacking out due to the timeout option. For example, I have it set so that if the phone is in any position other than pretty much horizontal, the screen stays on because it knows im using it. However If I put the phone down on a table, Screebl recognizes it and then proceeds to put the phone into sleep mode after a specified amount of time.

4. SpectralView. Awesome ambient audio analyzer. Very sensitive, and works well in all conditions. Does wonders for any type of audio person/recorder.

5. Tip Calc- what can I say, an awesome tip calculator that comes in handy whenever me and my friends go out.

I can't agree more, I even switched from one custom ROM to another because footprints was missing... it's a great little app and it performs flawlessly!
