Help Keep losing my data connection.

If this is still happening... I really don't know. Going through 4 radio lockouts today (all within 2 minutes apart) and having restarts now DUE to the radio lockouts... I may just have to hope and prey the Supersonic comes out soon.... that or switch to a Hero... they don't have radio lockouts to my knowledge. Honestly, with Swype, I don't know that I'll miss very much from the hardware keyboard. I just REALLY don't want to ditch my Moment for one outstanding issue. 2.1, please alleviate my issues.

Why are you posting mis-information? Actually right now Sprint CS has been exceptional. I almost always get answered within 1-2 minutes.
I never said it would take 55 minutes just to get a call answered. It will, however, take a long time to get transferred back and forth between departments. Sprint CS still sucks. Yes, it is better though. It's gone from a nightmare to just a headache.

I spent the entire AFC Championship Game on the phone with tech support because my BlackBerry would not provision correctly. They never could fix the problem so I have an Android device now.

I see. Well I usually get my problems(rare) solved rather quickly. Sometimes you need to ask the right questions, or know what department to call?

On a side note: What carrier do you know of that doesn't have this process?

I have heard of intermittent service in certain areas but when I'm in the same spot? I don't usually use my phone for the phone so when data loss comes into play I get very frustrated! I have found that updating prl is way quicker than taking out the battery or flipping the airplane mode on and off. 2.1 is going to bring its issues as well I am sure but the data thing really shouldn't be one of them!

I agree with the "same spot" headache. I mean I could be at a static location like work or school and id have EV for a good amount of time and then I just wouldn't have anything at some other time. And what really gets me is when I actually need to look something up and I can't because the service isn't there.

Other than that I still love the phone, it just annoys me pretty often.

just for the record 2.1 did not fix this really annoying bug. i'm on my second phone because Sprint doesnt realize this is a software problem and not a hardware problem. I have suspected that the lockup might be caused by the phone checking for call signal strength/new text messages. since cdma cant do call and data at the same time it would have to pause the data connection to poll the tower on the cell connection. if the driver was written badly this could cause radios to get locked up.
just an idea i had

My wife just started having this problem. She had two Moments before this one that never showed this problem. One was lost and one dropped and broken. This third phone came with 2.1 installed and hasn't worked for a full day without going into Airplane mode on its own several times. The only way to get it going again is to pull the battery. Sprint won't help her since the phone came through the insurance plan so she is calling the insurance company toady to get another one.

what I found out from a previous post is that you can just go to "about phone", "sytem updates" and "update prl". That should disconnect you from the network and bring you back in EVDO status.

a lot easier than disconnecting your battery.

Hey thanks! That worked for me too although I was just powering off and rebooting.

I've been keeping wifi off which has prevented this lockup from happening. However, when I do use wifi and the data locks up/goes out, I can usually fix it by turning on airplane mode. Here's the process:

1- data goes bye-bye
2- long-press power button and hit "airplane mode"
3- airplane mode status from above menu will show grayed out - give it a couple minutes
4- when possible, long-press/airplane mode - you should go into real airplane mode now
5- long-press/airplane mode to restore radio and data

In the past I was being impatient and at the grayed-out part of the process above I would give up and reboot the phone. Recently I tried leaving it alone for a couple of minutes which put the phone into some weird halfway airplane mode. After that, I have been able to restore my data connection.

All we need is an app or a widget that resets the radio. That's what the Update PRL trick is doing (BTW worked for me the first time and never again).

I don't know how to program but if someone does figure out how to reset the radio and make a button for it I'll pay $5 to never have to wait for 3 minutes while my phone is rebooting.
