System Upgrade 1.47.651..1 (21.43 MB) Now Available

My screen will timeout, but yeah, awake time keeps on ticking...
Battery 73% awake time 14:44:50 when I turned the screen off at 7:05 PM, Battery 70% awake time 15:30:55 when I turned it back on at 7:50. At least it doesn't seem to be using very much extra battery.

I'm having this same issue. It seems wifi is now keeping the phone awake and it's dying really fast post OTA. Have you figured out a fix for this? What caused it?

Just wanted to report my experiences with the software update. I don't see any significant improvement from the original software, as far as battery life is concerned. If anything, it seems like my battery doesn't last as long as it did before, but I'll have to continue observing for the next couple days. People reported that leaving the phone on standby had very minimal battery drain, but I didn't get the same experience (after the software update). Before, I'd maybe get 1-2 percent of drain over night, while on standby (prior to the update), but now it seems like my battery drains more than before. I've only had my 2nd replacement for 2 days, so we'll see if the trend continues in the next week or so.

My Evo was rooted until I did the stupid update and now it's no longer rooted. I wish I had know this BEFORE I did the update. *sigh* A few of my super favorite apps no longer work. I took it to the Sprint store yesterday for a hard reset phone is still NOT rooted but the battery seems to hold a bit more juice and the phone itself is running a tad faster. I bet I won't be so quick to update in the future! I love this phone I really do but I want it like it was fresh out the box. :(

did you not read this thread before you updated? its been well known for awhile that it would kill your root. You can still reroot it now though. Dont be a downer.

I left my phone on standby all night from approximately 9pm until 7am. The battery was 100% charged. When I took the phone off standby this morning, it was at 88%.

I don't know about everyone else here, but this was MUCH better for me prior the update. If I just left my phone in standby over night, it'd maybe drain 3-4% at the most. We'll see how it does throughout the rest of the day.

I've got a rooted Droid and Evo. It's only common sense to not apply an update until you read what the forums say, because the carriers have strong incentives to kill your root.

It's surprising how many people on this forum applied an unknown update so quickly, since this is supposedly a more tech-savvy crowd. I guess the appeal of the "new and better" blinded them.

Hopefully a lesson learned here...

I can appreciate this comment and assumption concerning the "tech-savvy" and like to believe I am fitting to this. But I was also one who was rooted prior to the update and enjoyed the use of my wireless tether and now I have shot myself in the foot!!! I don't feel like I'm an idiot like you are making others in my situation feel but rather I am very new to this OS. I am a lifelong Blackberry user and purchased the Evo for the 4G as well as my interest in the android platform. On a BB any update is a GOOD update!!!! You don't really hesitate in my experience, you just do it. Now with the "rooted" mentality (which I admitt I'm still learning) you have to be scared of updates and what you do with your phone?! Big downside to this platform but I am confident I will be rooted again soon and back to the routine! I guess you could say I learned my lesson but then again you might just think I'm not as tech-savvy as you my friend!

Let me just say, I am far from a noob at software and OS's but for the life of me i don't understand everyone's need to "root" their phone? Is it because they are "in depth techies" or what??? I like my phone the way it is and i don't want to make a brick out of it so i don't think i will be rooting anytime soon.

Can anyone tell some benefits to rooting my phone? Will it make a phone call better? Will it send a text message better? Will it send an email better? Will it use an app better? Aside from the tethering I don't get it. And pretty soon they will be going to 2.2 right? If the tethering doesn't work there I'm sure someone will have an app to get past it right??

Let the floggings commence.

Just to be clear, I never said anyone was an idiot. I just think it was naive, a different thing, to think a carrier would not try to patch a hole in their phone OS to avoid things like free wireless tether and carrier app removal.

BTW, I've only had an Android phone for a few months as well.

When I rooted my Droid the very first thing I did was move the verification keys so that Verizon would not install an OTA without my permission.

mizcardio I feel you 100%!!!! It was either better battery and faster working phone or free root and wireless tether ---guess we could not have both....SOMEONE PLEASE MAKE A FREE ROOT & wireless tether FOR SOFTWARE UPDATE 1.47...LOL
I think they did...

It isn't as easy as Unrevoked was, but I've found how-tos over on the xda site.

I'm just gonna see if 2.2 lands in July and use pdanet if I need tethering.

All good Greg, wasn't trying to piss anyone off!! So a question for you, you've only had an android phone for 3 months and you have both a Droid and an EVO!!! WOW!!!! So why all of a sudden the android fever?

I only use wifi occasionally, use the power widget to turn it off and on as needed. My battery life has been really good since the OTA, did the XDA trickle charge trick the day before and had great life, so I don't know which had more to do with it.

You can change the wifi sleep policy under menu>settings>wireless>wi-fi>menu>advanced.

I'm not sure how much any of it affects the battery when the phone is in standby. Try toggling off wifi when you don't need it and see what that does, then leave it on and modify the sleep policy and see what that does.

Gotta find a balance between convienence/cool tricks and battery life with these high powered devices.

Google gave out free Droids and Evos to folks who attended the Google IO 2010 conference in SF.

Otherwise I would never have such a high-powered phone. But their trick worked because now I'm learning to program on them - the reason they gave them out to attendees. I had planned to learn Blackberry programming, but a rooted Linux device is so much nicer than a locked down Blackberry and Android seems to offer a lot more power to the programmer.

I just needed a bit of clarification. If you did the OTA update you can't root anymore right? I was only using Unrevoked for my root solution to tether wirelessly but I know that will no longer work. Does that mean that no root will work? It seems that the only people I know who are still rooted are those who did custom updates.

This goes to all......................

If you were rooted before update, too bad your not rooted anymore. There are threads here with discussions and links to many sites for new updated root methods. Do the research.
