Getting one in the UK

Looking to get a Nexus One, in the UK, for some development work.

Seems ridiculously difficult to get one to be honest. I would like to be able to get an unlocked one from a reputable company, VAT registered who have it in stock in the UK.

I know that will be pricey but any suggestions for companies worth dealing with would be appreciated.

(I would have gone through Expansys but they don't have any and are gouging on price imo)

You can buy them from Phones4u, they are the Vodafone version (no branding on the phone and is unlocked to any network already), do note though that they run a different build of Android so are unable to be updated to Froyo right now without unlocking the bootloader (voids warranty).

Ideally we're after something that will have Froyo, if not now, then soonish.

Do you know what they're selling them for (roughly?) - not on their website at all.

Google did say in a couple of weeks for Vodafone build based phones.. though two weeks has already passed

If you're doing dev work then surely unlocking the bootloader isn't going to be an issue? In which case it can have 2.2 the instant you get it hooked up to a USB port.

Not having even glanced into it yet, I presume it's a fairly trivial process for someone relatively techy.

Google site no good? I ordered mine on 25th Jan and it was at my door by the 28th.

Indeed, the phone has the option build in, so it takes seconds to type the command.

Yep, when it comes to dev work, you were pretty much right going with the N1.

Why aren't you ordering direct from Google - they are still shipping I believe :thinking:

I agree - if there's an issue with the phone HTC deal with it up the road from my workplace, in Milton Keynes.

You're not facing having to ship it back to the US, and I've had things from the UK take longer to arrive..
