Best Buy Mobile employee here! Feel free to ask me questions :)

I have a question in regards to coming back to Verizon after porting out.

I ported out of Verizon early to switch to Sprint for the Evo around June 5th. Wasn't happy with the Evo so I returned that and ported form Sprint to ATT for the Iphone 4. Really unhappy with that so I'm coming full circle to get the DX. I paid my last service bill with Verizon and just received the bill for the ETF. A Verizon CSR told me I could port back to Verizon and get credited back for the ETF and he seemed to think I would be eligible to upgrade to the DX at the 2 year contract price. I can't login to Verizon website any more to check my contract end/upgrade date.

Have you ever dealt with a customer coming back to Verizon? The CSR could not tell me exactly how that process would work. Would simply porting my original VZW number back to VZW satisfy? I'm trying to figure out whether I need to pay that ETF before I head to pick up the DX. I preordered in the second round at Best Buy in Manhattan Beach, but the local verizon store says they can set me up with an appointment at 6:30 am on launch day. I have no idea what my chances are with Best Buy.

Thanks!

I wouldn't be able to tell you, there are so many different variables when it comes to customer service, one will let you do something the other won't.

Sprint will give you an annual upgrade for the two year pricing of the phone, so that definitly helps, but if you are 6 months in, I would just stick it out for another 6, you never know what will be out then :)

I didn't see a Droid X question in there =P

I thank you for your response. :)

Yes I know. I am not even sure I know the Droid X phone is, but I was browsing the forums and your post caught my eye...:p

Damn, what are you going to do if you don't like the DX?

This whole thing with 1yr contract seems very confusing. Wish BB would get a price and acknowledge if they will or will not do it. From my perspective it seems like it would be the safer route esp given that upgrade after 1 yr will cost $140 ($10 more to get a qualified plan and $20 for upgrade itself) as well as being new to verizon so I think this is what I want to do just not sure if BB will do it and also sell the phone for $269.

Not sure I follow. I'm currently debating whether to get a 1 or 2 year contract as a new Verizon customer. It was my understanding that if I sign a 2-year contract, I can get the upgrade price after 1 year, and if I sign a 1-year contract, I can get the upgrade price at 10 months. Is that correct? If so, then you are paying $70 more for the phone in order to upgrade 2 months sooner... and of course the piece and mind that you could switch carriers as well after 12 months.

On the other hand, I'll be doing a family plan with 2 other lines, and if I do a 1-year contract, I'll have to pay more for the other phones as well. And neither of them care if they can upgrade after 12 months (they will stick with a phone for 2 years).

So I was initially thinking of doing a 1-year in order to be able to upgrade in a year, but since I'll be the primary line and can upgrade in a year anyway, I might as well just do the 2-year and save the money on the phones, right?

The basic plan $39 + $29 does not qualify for upgrade after 1 yr. Also there is a $20 upgrade fee if you are on a 2yr contract. I'm single so no family plan.

The only way you can receive a new phone after one year in a 2 year contract is you must qualify for a annual upgrade, straight from verizon policy

You must be registered for My Verizon, be on a calling plan of $49.99 or higher and have completed at least 1 year of a 2-year contract and agree to renew for an additional 2 years in order to get a new phone at a promotional price. It

Quick question to all the BBYmobile gurus out there. Did the powers that be ever send an email out saying BBY employees (I work in PCHO) can't preorder? I know they did that for some previous phones but hadn't yet when I preordered. Should I assume I'll have a phone available at my store (I was preorder #4) at 10am or should I go the the VZW store before 9 on the 15th? I'm hesitant to ask one of the mobile managers because I get conflicting information out of them. One has said it's fine as long as there wasn't an email forbidding it, one saying they never do employee preorders for new phones.

Thanks! We all appreciate the wealth of information you've brought to this thread!

Funny :). I've had a droid since it came out. Loved android and the customability. The evo battery life was just terrible for me. 8 to 12 hours. I got the iPhone to hold me over and figured I should give it a chance. It's not for me and the AT&T and apple combo doesn't work so hot in Los Angeles. Even with the microcell I have extremely poor service in my house.

I'm confident returning to the droid will be for good. I've even seen a guy who has switched into and out of a sprint evo 3 times since it came out, I'm not that bad haha

They said the first wave of preorders were open to employees, but not the second wave we started on the 4th. Usually if there is going to be tight stock, like the EVO or the iPhone 4, they will not allow employees to get the phone till they have fufilled all the customer preorders, at least from what I've seen.

It's all up to the Mobile Manager, but unless employee news tells us otherwise, you should be good :)

And you're welcome :D Now about those aircards....

I have never done that before. I imagine that after we do the port, you would have to talk to customer service on the phone and get the ETF resolved. I would not take the luxury in thinking it would automatically take the ETF away, and just talk to Verizon after the port is done.

Hope that helps, mr carrier jumper ;)

The Verizon rep I talked to about Annual upgrades, said most of the time they waive the fee(whether I believe her or not is another thing...), so I would look into that. We can do 1 year contracts, it's in our register, it's also on the price tags in our phone displays (ask for 1 year pricing). I don't know why they are saying they don't offer it, very strange to me.

You would not be a new customer if your contract ended for verizon, as it would show you have had a previous account in the last two years (I believe it's two years, someone correct me if I'm wrong).

The 1 year pricing on the other hand, probably won't know until wednesday :(

Correct.

In your situation it seems like the 2 year contract will be better for you, considering the other lines don't need to upgrade every year, and you still can.

Aookay, just want to verify...full MSRP at BB is the $699 right?

I think my other fellow BBYM employee said that after his manager checked, but I have yet to find the SKU to confirm. And since it still doesn't show the pricing for the 2 year and 1 year in our register, I can't confirm it's not a placeholder.

Not saying he's wrong, I just myself can't confirm it.

Will check into this on Wednesday.

So with the 1 yr contract you still cannot upgrade to a new phone after a year because you are not a new customer ? (I would be a new customer to verizon with the start of this 1 yr contract; but it sounds like you are saying to get a discounted phone next year you have to be a new customer not just out of contract ??)

Oh no, I meant you wouldn't be a new customer, but you would still be able to get the phone at the upgrade price.

Sometimes there is a difference between new customer price and upgrade price :)

Ok thanks. Is there a difference this time around for any smart phone at verizon?

Btw I wish our local BB guy was as knowledgeable and helpful as you. Actually the local fellow (mobile manager) is pretty nice... just seems to be alot of confusion with how verizon is running this roll out.

I don't know if the Verizon store does it differently, but for us, most of the time the price is different if there is a promotion going on. Like the LG ally was 29.99 for new customers and 49.99 for upgrades. Usually the new phones IE: the Incredible, the X, so on, are the same price new &upgrade.

Me too, me too. :)
