Walked into Verizon this evening...

Went to my Verizon this afternoon. They are only getting 20 units in on Thursday and said that they are all "accounted for". I told him no biggie, since I preordered with best buy. Still I live in a decent sized city in Charlotte, NC. 20 doesn't seem like many.

I'm also in Charlotte, which store did you go to? I didn't ask about availability but I did ask (at 2 different locations) if they had one I could see and they both said no. I also asked if they would bump my NE2 date up and was told their manager doesn't normally do that. :( He also asked me what phone I had first...if I would have said I had a dumb phone (one without a $30 data plan), I wonder if the answer would have been different... Do they have to eat that $50 if they do that or something?

i have 3 stores within 20 min of eachother...one store is opening an hour early and having 45 phones...the other said they didnt know how many they were getting, arent opening early, and are not taking appointments...

I walked into one store and called two others within 15 min drive of me. First store had one they let me play with- OMG! I love this phone! They said that all of the ones they got in stock are accounted for by their "waitlist." The second store (that I called) said they were expecting to not have enough and they are not reserving any. He said they might get a second shipment in Fri. Neither store is opening early. The third store the guy said they are opening early AND he expects there shouldnt be any issue with getting one. So guess to which store I am going...

I just got off the phone with my local Verizon store in Columbus, OH. They said they are opening at 8 a.m. She wouldn't disclose the amount other than "we've got some in and are getting more tomorrow." She wouldn't hold one for me, either.

I talked to a phone rep this afternoon, and also wanted to pass along the info I got from her. Yes, I know this is repetitive, but I wanted to share.

#1. The rebate for their online store is instant.
#2. Store orders will have to do a mail-in rebate. I forgot to ask how the rebate would come (check, Visa card...etc.)
#3. The online store will open with the phone at 12 Midnight Central Time. I have no idea why Central, but that is what I was told.

I thought I had more info, but I guess that is it.

I'm going to try to put this into a good perspective for all of you. It's not really news, just some things you might like to know. I live in a medium-large sized town in South Carolina. It's big enough for a verizon store on each side of town and ofcourse the dealers such as bestbuy. Not many people are keen on the latest technology here, atleast not in the phone department, so I figured I'd have no problem showing up at a store at 9 thursday morning and getting a Droid X in my hands. Still, I thought I'd go in Verizon tonight just to ask about how many Droid X's they would have.

My new best friend/Verizon employee responded:

"We've had people asking about those for two months. Let me go ask if we're opening early...." - She walks away and talks to my other favorite Verizon employee, then struts back like she has big news - "Yeah we're opening an hour early. There's definitely going to be a line, so I highly suggest you get an appointment."

Say Whaaa? Where I live? There's going to be a line?

I asked her how in a town like mine, so many people could want the phone, and she explained her theory that the allusiveness of the phone has people wanting it more and more. So I'm not sure if that's bullcrap or not, but I'm still amazed. They did have the Droid X cases in stock, so I went ahead and bought the bodyglove one. (If you guys want i'll post pics later) For the record, the phone is not as large as people make it out to be. I mean it's big, but it's completely pocketable even with a thick bodyglove case on. I've got the 9th appointment on thursday morning, I highly suggest you drive out to your store and get one too. They're much more likely to offer you one if you're actual there instead of calling them.

If you are in Greenville then you are mistaken, this city is huge on cell phones. Just check Craigslist people are more jazzed by cell phones around here than computer hardware and I work in the I.T. department for one of the major call centers here. (Starts with an S.)

By my standards though this is a small town. :p

We have two corporate, I'm not sure of any auth resellers besides Bestbuy, target and a few others.

Several of the Verizon stores are resellers and not corporate stores. I've been into the one on Pelham and the one on Woodruff. both of those are auth. resellers.

And you also have to realize, when you call verizon, you are calling Greenville, where verizon's call center is for this region. so yeah. lots of phone freaks here.

Oh we're much larger than that, so I bet we'll get more than 30. I hope you're right and we both go home with X's!

Yeah my city isn't too big, but the good news is that I am close to about five different Verizon's if I need to go to another one. Also I am right by our capital and hit up any of the Verizon's if it comes to it. I would suspect bigger cities would ave no problem.
