My phones have always been covered with Assurion. So I noticed today that my bill no longer had the monthly charge on it. I called and found out that I had been dropped almost 2 years ago bc of having 2 claims in a 12 month time frame with my blackberry curve. :( I was not aware of this, which isn't the point. NOW, i've had my Inc for 38 days and am unable to add insurance to it bc you're supposed to do it within 30 days of purchase, which I obviously didn't do bc I wasn't aware I didn't have it to begin with.

So, any ideas or alternatives to getting coverage for it? I cannot imagine not having it with this phone..

Yes, it was ALL an oversight on my end, by not noticing that the charge was not on my monthly statements, but honestly, bc I have an unlimited plan, I never look at the itemized stuff and just pay the bill..So any help is appreciated..

THANKS!!

Try some of the alternatives that have been mentioned many times in the forum, for instance, see if you can add it to your home owners policy or if renting, your rental insurance.

I'm new to Verizon, but with Sprint, I was asked if I wanted insurance any time I changed a phone on my account. Even when mentioning it was a used phone, they said it was ok.

I would guess that this can differ between carriers, but if they allow it, you could benefit.

Does anyone know what Verizon's stance is?

Verizon is $8 a month & a large deductible...unsure of exact but if I remember correctly was like $60-$80.
I read an interesting article other day about phone insurance and the author recommended to only get insurance for the first year on a 2yr contract and if something happens after that 1 yr mark, it just cost benefit wise to just use an old phone until qualify for upgrade.

I insured my Incredible with State Farm under their "personal belongings policy" or something to that effect. It's NOT part of a homeowner's policy - it is seperate.

I paid $39 for a year's worth of coverage and they have NO DEDUCTIBLE. By far, the best deal out there. This service is not available in all states. You may also check with other major insurance companies as they are covering cell phones more and more for VERY cheap.

Good luck!

You can call Asurion directly and tell them that you want to have phone coverage. I called them about 45 days later and there was no issue. They ask for your Verizon number and Name, and tell you that it'll take 30 days before you are covered. The 30 day period to get insurance on new phones is their policy with Verizon. Verizon is not able to add the insurance after you've had your phone for 30 days, only Asurion themselves can.

I've not heard of any other company doing what State Farm is doing. (and only in certain states?)
I'd say, just be really, really careful.

Adding something to a homeowners policy is VERY normal. jewelry is the most common example. It's called getting a rider.

I use Auto-Owners Insurance here in Michigan (yes, they do homeowners as well as auto - i use both). I have a rider on my HOMEOWNERS policy for our smartphones. $500 coverage per phone. No deductible. Cost = $14.83 per year per phone. It covers theft, damage, etc. filing a claim does NOT affect rates going forward.

I dropped my phone about a month ago ... in the garage (ouch). shattered the glass. I called my agent, told him what happened. he told me to buy a new phone and send him the receipt. I had a check for $500 in 5 days. It was a hassle (setting up the phone, not the insurance), but i'm back in business.

Just remember - not all insurance companies are the same and not all states are the same. Get a reputable agent that represents several insurance companies so he/she can shop around and get you the best deal. talk to your friends and family to find a good agent - in the long run you'll be glad you did. (sorry if i sound like i'm selling something :))

go with square trade. Thats what i have... And i think you have 90 days....
Have you ever had to use them? If so, how easy was the process? With Asurion it was so easy. Is it expensive?

Thanks so much for this. I actually tried calling them yesterday to ask if I can be added back on but the department that handles it was closed. They open on Monday so I'm going to try back then. Good to know it worked for someone in a similar situation. :)

And regarding adding it on to a renter's/homeowner's policy...I don't have this, which is a whole other topic.

I don't have either, either. I don't technically have renters insurance because it's my fiance's lease, so he has it. And we don't own a home yet, so no need for that.

I might call Geico tomorrow to see if it's something they offer and I can add it as a rider to my car insurance policy. Otherwise I will just stick with my Assurion.

I wanted this to be true but no luck. They were actually pretty rude about it to! I was hoping :(

Have you ever had to use it? If so, was filing the claim easy??

I have seen a couple others people here have used and have them bookmarked but are on my home computer and I am at work right now. I just found this page by doing a quick Google search.
Thanks for this!! I am so afraid to randomly pick a place and it be some kind of scheme or scandal!

Here is the place I had bookmarked on home computer that I have been seriously considering.

Man I don't know if this was something that only happened with Sprint or all insurance companies in the past but I remember that I could add insurance to my phone at any given time. To ensure that I wasn't adding insurance just to make a quick claim, they would call me back on my insured phone to make sure its working and I still have it. Those were the good ol' days....

I'm am so sorry!
They really did let me get phone coverage. I checked the Asurion page that had the info for Verizon enrollment and they changed it.
Here is the link: Asurion - Enrollnow Dynamic Lookup

They closed open enrollment out on the 31st of May :(

Sorry again, I didn't think they would be closing open enrollment. I did on the 28th I believe.

I got my "Total Protection coverage" which is the Extended Warranty and Asurion insurance.

I must have lucked out with the insurance considering they closed open enrollment 9 days after I placed my order.

But I remember updating the coverage after I got my phone...

Doesn't seem fair that an insurance company can decide when to cover customers.

Shouldnt every buyer have the same options to protect their investment??

The open enrollment means its for people who didn't get insurance from Asurion through Verizon within 30 days of getting their phone. You would of been able to get insurance from Asurion if you called Verizon before the 30 day mark.

I was able to get insurance with Asurion after 40+ days because they still had the open enrollment.
