How many of you are switching from a BB to the Droid

BB storm owner since day 1. First one i got had screen problems, verizon quickly sent me a replacement. That one had issues as well, so took it to store where i got a replacement. When 5.0 OS came out i tired to update at home and it bricked it, took it store they had to replace it. Got a flyer in the mail saying i was eligible for an early upgrade, so i went to the store with Storm 2 on my mind. Saw a Droid and started playing with it, went home and called in my order (should be here Tuesday). Though my current Storm works well, i am a gadget freak and the Droid had me hooked with the customization and android OS. Slowing waiting for Tuesday to come.

I would dump my Storm 1 in a heartbeat if I didn't take a beating on paying full price on the Droid. Still have 11 months or so to go on my Storm 1 contract. :(

I had the same issue with my curve.. one call to verizon customer service with a little begging and they changed my upgrade date on the spot, provided I ordered over the phone. I then walked in to the store and told the sales rep I had permission to upgrade early. Walked out 10 minutes later with a Droid for 320 including tax will a 99 dollar MIR. So 220 for the Droid.. all it takes is asking the right questions. :)

Did we happen to be the same person in the same store? lol

At first they wasn't going to let me upgrade. I had the in mail flyer in my hand. Still said that system said I was able to. Showed them the call log on my storm that I had called 611. Still said sorry. i said how about I call them and you can talk to them. Spent about 10 mins on the phone the guy come over and said the manager will upgrade you.

Done deal. New Droid out the door today for the same price you paid. :D

I've been a BB Storm owner since last November. With release 5.x, the Storm is a highly capable phone. But, memory runs low, the browser sucks hard, and no wi-fi.

I picked up a Droid to try out on Friday. Amazing phone. The browser is awesome, great ability to customize, and with three days of use no battery pull. Sadly, I can't connect to my work Cisco IPSEC VPN with the Droid so I'm back to the Storm.

If I could have connected or didn't have the need, I'd kept the Droid and never looked back. Much better than anything RIM has to offer.

I'm currently a Tour user. On my 5th one (a whole slew of problems, with VZW continually sending me refurbished 'like-new' units (BS). They finally are sending me a new one.

I am going to try the Droid for a couple of weeks to see if I can replace the Tour.

My biggest concerns (prior to actually getting the phone) are lack of Bluetooth dialing and how it will handle my multiple, non-exhange email accounts.

I 'm excited to try it.

As much as i loved my blackberry, I always wanted to get an iphone but my employer has a contract with verizon. So i just got the droid last week.
My wife has the ipod touch (which is pretty much an iphone without the phone) and i have to say, I'm liking the droid much better. It is way more customizable; and with an open sourced OS that is available on multiple phones, it is just a matter of time before the apps available catch up (if not pass iphone)

I think apple makes a good product all around but i think that (just like how windows did back in the day with the pc) the android os will eventually annihilate the iphone. Too many phones. Too many people able to develop new stuff for it.

I still need a solution for my groupwise email. I have to use the web based virtual office until notifylink or someone else comes up with an android client.

Just be careful if Verizon is sending you a NEW phone. They aren't the best at telling you that by taking a NEW phone, it will extend your upgrade elibility date way out into the future. This happened to me on several occasions and took a LOT of work to get it put back to where it was supposed to be. At one point, my upgrade eligibility was July of 2011 when my contract expires November of 2010. Point of the story is that if you take the NEW Tour and aren't aware that its going to extend your upgrade eligibility date way out into the future, you might not be able to get the Droid in a timely fashion.

I am a BB user (Curve 8330), and I tried the Droid for 10 days. Returned it.

I need the phone to work more like the BB, in the way of calling contacts, and emailing.

Also, there are too many steps needed to wake the thing up. I like the BB holster as it wakes the device up when I need to use it.

Also, no push email except through Gmail or Exchange Svr sucks.

Lastly, I wish they included setup options on the base device that are as detailed as the BB setup is. Multiple notifier options, ability to send email from different email server, many font styles and sizes, auto turn off/on, etc.
Having to load multiple apps to run all of the features you want will surly burn up some memory, and this will begin to slow the device down for sure..

Someone needs to develop a BB function app.:D

Currently, this is just a cool TOY, aimed squarely at the iPhone. Unfortunately I need a true business tool for calling and emailing.

I am going to see what they fix between the Dec and Jan updates and then I may be back.

Storm I user since launch day last November, and I've just about gotten the Storm to be the phone I thought I was buying last year. So it's been a 1-year learning curve for the Storm...and now Verizon gives me the early upgrade option. What to do... Went and spent some time playing on the demo Droid and Eris at the VZW store today, and came away somewhat underwhelmed and overwhelmed at the same time by these Android devices. After getting used to doing everything "assertively" on the Storm's screen, I found myself accidentally 'clicking' on everything on these Android machines, especially the Droid. The Eris felt much more familiar, but I'm leery of its already outdated chipset and hardware. With the Droid, it seemed like everytime I moved my thumb slightly, I was opening or choosing something. And, I didn't think the keyboard OR on-screen keypad were that great. After about 25 minutes with these devices, I found myself trying the Storm 2...and feeling infinitely more comfortable with it. Then I told myself I wasn't going to spend another $100 just to get a better Storm (which felt about as different from a Storm 1 as my Storm 1 did after upgrading the OS each time).

However, my biggest Storm complaints were the SLOW browser and generally slow data performance, and truth be told, it's because signals in my neighborhood are so weak (typical signal strength is around -95 outside, -112 inside). The most significant upgrade "feature" for me will end up being the addition of wi-fi, since I will now be able to tap into my home network. It almost doesn't matter which device I get!

I'm very comfortable with the Storm, but only after using it a year. At first, I spent at least a month to get the basics. I tell people - if you get the Storm, be willing to work the keyboard for 3 weeks before passing judgment.

During my first few hours with the Droid, I didn't like it. By the third day, I had all of my email accounts (5) setup, weather and twitter running, a sports channel installed, and Slacker working. And I loved the phone. (Alas returned for lack of Cisco IPSEC support.)

My point - don't expect to like the phone after playing with it for 25 minutes in the store. Take it home and give it a try. I went to an authorized Verizon reseller that had a 3 day no questions asked no money lost return policy. That worked great for testing out the phone.

Thanks for the heads up. I'll check that.
And, as cyberranger said, I don't think I gave the Droid a fair test with 15 minutes in the VZW store with a bunch of other people hovering around. I'll try it for 3 days, within which time I can return it with no restocking fee.

Well, I'm just looking to push email out to my device, not even activesync from our Exchange server. Surely, this won't be a problem, I hope. But now that I've waited this long, I'm contemplating waiting for the HTC Dragon/Passion to hit Verizon. For once in my life, I'm trying to be patient, and my Storm I is still doing what I need it to do....

I have had no problems doing this on our exchange server.

I know others have had problems but my activesync is working perfectly.
