So the Evo is a Hummer?

I'm waiting to find availability on the Evo. Until then my crippled (due to iOS update (big mistake)) 3G must stutter along. There's no support for downgrading, at all. Anyway... I read a few excerpts from the Apple spectacle on Friday.

So the Evo and all other 3.4+ inch screens are Hummers (according to His Highness). Jobs adds, "and no one will buy them." Hey Steve, then why don't you walk into a Sprint store and try buying one! What an a**. The dude is so very arrogant and out of touch. He made it pretty clear the phone he hawks isn't getting a bigger screen. Ever.

He's such a liar. "We have people working around the clock on these issues to make our customers happy." Uh, where was Steve before the conference? Hint - On vacation in Hawaii. D*ck.

I want my HUMMER. I mean EVO!

Best quotes ever:

"This is life in the smartphone world."

"Most every smartphone we tested behaves just like this when it's in a relatively weak signal area and you grip it in a way that's not unusual."

And my favorite: "We care about every user." This said after first showing the iP4 song - "If you don't like it, don't buy it"

Apple - QuickTime - July 16 Press Conference

Weak.

Seriously,....I'm no electronics wiz but it would be my prediction that if the Apple/iphone doesn't learn to change with the times, and bend to consumer needs and wishes, they will eventually become obsolete. I feel like Jobs underestimates the intelligence of the general public. Eventually owning an "Apple" anything will not be such a huge status symbol. It can be replaced.
There will be people here who will certainly disagree, but I feel like Jobs is very condescending when he speaks to the public, and even from some of the comments here, I have gathered that the iphone is designed to cater to a more simple consumer. I can not speak to that from experience though, as I have never owned one.

I give it to apple for starting the App revolution but thats all the iphone is right now...thats why i called it the app-Phone its whole User Interface is nothin but a checker board style List of apps you have on the phone ...Its like pressing the All apps button on ur evo and the list popping up and that being ur whole home screen...I cant see how people can still find this acceptable seeing as how androids home screen is filled with useful widgets and actual information other then a clickable link shortcut to a app....

Their in a comfort zone right now that they shouldnt be in...

First Apple instead of addressing their problem they say other phones have problems. This is such arrogance and turns me off from Apple products.

They are getting backlash from Nokia, RIM, Motorolla and others. Interesting quotes from execs from these companies.

I guess Apple thinks people are idiots and will buy their marketing BS. As far as return rate on iPhones notice that iPhone been out for 22 days hence buyers still in 30 day remorse period.

Also Apple said they only got .55 percent of calls with reception complaints. Wouldn't people call AT&T about reception issues? Notice Apple did not release data on calls to AT&T about reception complaints or % of dropped calls. Why are they hiding the data. If you have good record you want to flaunt not hide.

He holds a press conference to address the issues with the iphone but what i find to be a cowardly act, he mention other cell phone companies to cover up for the iphone instead of just man up and be accountable i mean wow you have no issues with letting the world know we sold 3million iphones but even to give a bumper he almost sound like he didn't want to do that as well.

I like my Hummer as well. It shows that Jobs isn't quite as in touch with reality and the market as he should be, considering his position.

I see iPhone as an entry level to mid-level smartphone. They'll always be around because they make a great product, but for me, a tech nerd, I like Android because I can do more and have more customization/control. I see Android and iOS being around for a very long time as they appeal to different demographics. It's like BET vs. G4.

Everyone keep saying "they make a great product", but the proof is in the pudding (which will not be served until you eat your meat), and imo if you have had as many chances to get it right as Apple, and you still can NOT make a cell phone with a proper antennae for good reception, you aren't that good at what you do, and your product is NOT that great.

Heh, Everyone has their mistakes.

Coke 2, Pepsi Clear, Cross Fire Fuel Injection, Mustang II, Kin, Schlitz new snot beer formula, etc etc.

Hopefully they can recover, because as much as I will never own an iPhone, I still believe the product is solid..... (I don't like them because of Att, and because of the Apple grip on development)

I see your point, and you are absolutely right. It's pretty ******ed that it's an i"PHONE" and they can't make an antenna that works right. I know this sounds stupid but other than that fact, it really is a neat gadget. I'm not one of those Android users who loves to knock Apple, because the things they do well, they do exceptionally well.

The entire history of Apple is in attacking the competition. remember the Big Brother Mac ad in the Super Bowl? How can one forget the last couple years of sickening mocking of Windows. I never thought this was cool or magical.

Eh...sorry all. Not a Hummer fan. Not that there's anything wrong with a large vehicle but for a lot of folks you've got to admit it's just conspicuous consumption. When you buy a massive truck so one person can drive to work or get groceries it might be seen as overkill.

That said, it's just my opinion. Regardless, the Evo is hardly just "big for the sake of being big". On a computer or phone or media device, there is always something to be said about bigger and faster. Old Steve knows this. When the iPhone came out, that was the killer feature. A big-ass glass screen. So many folks thought it was too big but watching video or browsing the web on it was great.

Likewise, the Evo is pushing the upper limit of phone screen size. The Evo is far from perfect but HTC did a great job of getting a huge screen into a device not buch larger than the iPhone 3GS. The screen is not something you want to choose to criticize.

Still, Steve Jobs is a CEO. His company makes a competing product. He's gonna do what it takes to push his offering and that's cool. I wouldn't worry too much about his characterization. Steve makes millions and that's capitalism. As long as there is a market for devices that I prefer then I find it hard to get really annoyed. There was a point where you could only get an iPhone if you wanted a phone with a big screen and powerful media capabilities. Now we have an alternative that suits us better and there are options on every major carrier.

Steve is just being a fanboy. At least it makes sense for him. It's his product. As much of an Android booster as I am, I don't expect Steve Jobs to be less of a supporter of his own company's product. Unless he pulls some kind of dodgy move that pushes Android out of the market, I couldn't care less what he has to say. I take advice from friends and coworkers and things I read. I'm not going on advertisements or statements by corporate CEOs.

Hummers are junk. They arent even that fun to drive. A Tahoe is a better choice. Apple does make great products. The other day I was at Best buy looking at computers and found myself drooling over the 27" iMac and MacBooks. I cant justify spending that kinda money on their products. Apples biggest mistake was having an exclusive deal with At&t. If the iPhone was out on all major carriers years ago I might have got one back then. If the iPhone came out for Sprint today, I would still choose Android. I have 2 ipods and in no way dislike Apple.

If by Hummer you mean advertise a long list of features it "should"be able to do... The deliver an average/low quality device that doesn't perform as advertised? Then yes this is the mother of all Hummers. 4G, verdict still out but 3mb is not that impressive against the competition. HTC QC failed with light leakage, a battery door that looks like it was take from a child's toy and barely fits, gaps and all. Video recording that is horrible to bad in the best of conditions.

You can froth at the mouth as rabid fanboys all you like but if anyone believes this is the best all around smartphone out...your standards are rather low imo. Sprint data plans, pricing and coverage have been the biggest factor for staying and waiting for a much better built smartphone. HTC failed in terms of quality on the Evo in many ways.
