Volume on speakers and headhones low

It has nothing to do with the headphones. Headphones that are loud on my iphone, are quiet on the desire.

The volume at 100% on the desire is equivalent volume 60% on the iphone. :(

Please read the post. He has answered your question.

I use Sansung SBH-650 Bluetooth headphones and they nearly blow my head off :D Plus have to have the speaker down a couple of notches as also too loud. Came from an n96 with dual speakers and although not quite as loud it aint far off.

Ah, sorry about that. I must have missed the part regarding TRS not making contact.

However, I just tried with the desire headphones with the same result.
Also, as far as my phone goes, it's not only the headphones, it's the ringer and speakerphone volume, too.

I tried to use the Desire as a sat nav (Navigon) yesterday and couldnt hear the commands over the radio at all. It's fine as an mp3 player even though the volume is at 100% where my ipod would be at about 60%. Really thought I'd be able to ditch the stand alone sat nav so a bit disappointed.

Even with the stand-alone sat nav, I always used to switch off the radio when coming up to 'tricky bits' of the journey....so I heard everything correctly. I do the same thing with the Desire now....I'm nearly 50 and have never had the best hearing in the world, but I can hear the Google Voice instructions no prob when doing this.

The speaker is deffo pants when playing back media clips though....the speaker is pointing away from you when viewing the screen, so I find myself cupping my hand at the back of the phone and trying to 'amplify' the sound output....it's my main gripe with it infact. If listening to it as an mp3 player or watching a film with my Sennheiser buds - it's fine.
