I'm missing my slide

I miss my slide already. I LOVE the Vibrant, it has an awesome screen! But is that enough?? I miss that freaking genius button so bad. I could say "Find coffee" and it would locate every coffee store near me on my Google maps. I just bought Vlingo for TEN BUCKS. And it is nowhere near as good as the genius button. It misunderstands what I say more often than not.

Thanks. I needed some reassurance (btw, she not he LOL). I learned something actually. I didn't know the google voice would call people!!! I tried it and it worked! Very cool. It worked better than Vlingo actually.

I still like how the genius button worked like the around me app for iphone. I could say "find coffee" and it would pull up my google maps and find every coffee shop near me. Vlingo makes me specify my city (doesn't use my GPS or current location) and I don't always know my city when I am driving out of town. I also don't always know what coffee shops are around so I can't give an exact name. And the texting function on mytouch slide was phenomenal -not so much on vlingo. Perhaps someone can give me app suggestions?

Whoa! I just learned how to use the "find" function on google voice!!! I didn't realize it did that. I just didn't phrase it properly when I used it before. I think I was using the "search" instead. I said "Find coffee shops" and it worked. Just like the genius button. I am learning so much! I guess the only function I need is the texting function. I could get that with handcent or something else I think. Thanks for enlightening me!!

Well you know if you ever needed to get that thing off your hands, I'm in the market for a free Vibrant...

I'm just messin' with you... Maybe? :p

LOL! I love the Vibrant! I fell in love with it the first time I saw it! I have just been missing the genius button because I don't fiddle with my phone when I am driving. I am learning more about google voice though and I am really impressed! My Vibrant manual said nothing about it!

Glad you got it working! I was going to give you a little tutorial on this, but you figured it out!

Thanks! I am new to smartphones. Only had the slide 2 weeks and never had anything at all before. Android is all new to me. I wish the manual that came with the phone was better. It's too simplistic. Is there a better one online or anything?

Hehe, most likely, or you can find some user-compiled database of known commands somewhere, search with...Google. :p

Download Handcent from Market for better texting.

I know that its a couple more steps but when you have the message of the person that you want to text up and with the android keyboard, there is a little mic on the bottom left of the keybord that lets you speech-to-text. It actually works pretty good. Tried it a couple of times and was really amazed with how well it picked up on my dyslexia

Voice texting? It does that too. Change keyboard from Swype to Android and it will type what you say. First touch the microphone icon first though.

That only works when you already have the contact pulled up. The genius button you day text ben hi and it pulls up ben and texts hi to him.

And that is a good feature. Would of been nice for the Vibrant to do that.

I liked the slide as a phone but i didnt want a keyboard when it already had a virtual keyboard with voice to text. No need for it and it made the phone thick.
