I am having the same exact issue. I have tried both salling sync and doubletwist and both freeze up during transfer of songs. I am able to copy over my whole itunes directory by dragging and dropping, but I want a program that can sync.
I used Doubletwist to upload my music too, and WOW it took forever, I didn't time it, but it was at least an hour, could have been too. I knew after the first try when the progress bar moved 1/8 of an inch in 15 minutes it was going to be a LONG haul. But it did work, but man hope you have time to leave your phone hooked up for HOURS!
Unfortunately, the Moto app and DoubleTwist do not work well with a NAS setup. All my music is stored on a shared drive and these two just don't like that. Trying Salling now.
I'm in the same boat here, all media is stored on my server and accessed via shared drives (unc path). Had the same issue with my BlackBerry where their sync solution would not work either with shared drives.
Let us know if the Salling solution works for remote storage.
Right i understand about the sync thing,
but what about copying over my itunes music?
It says that it supports AAC format. and it's paid for songs... so it should be able to play it right?
I didn't download a THING for iTunes. I just connected and mounted the phone to my pc, created a music file and a ringtones file on the sd card, then dragged and dropped.
THEN I uses Ringdroid to create ringtones using the music I copied.
I played the files on the music player just to see if they would play on the music player. They played just fine.
Maybe you all are making this to complicated. The first night I had my Droid, I used the drag and drop between itunes and a new folder on my desktop. Then to my Droid folder and it worked. When I view the folder on my computer the songs are in a list but on my Droid music player they are listed by album.
I've also been able to drag and drop directly from itunes to the Droid folder when mounted. I downloaded DoubleTwist, but I have never used it.( Every time I open itunes it pops up to sign in but I close it) so I don't know if this is why I am able to do this.

Do they not show up or are they just slow? If you're talking iTunes, try checking just a few music files and uncheck the rest. In other words try a smaller set.
If they don't show up, map a drive letter instead of UNC. You may have already tried all of these.
Not pretty.
I have iTunes and manage about 8gb of music, podcasts, etc. for my iPod, proir to purchasing the Droid.
When I went to the Droid, all the music were properly and neatly organized by artist, album and playlist. HOWEVER, much of my album art did not transfer over. Doing some investigating, I learned that any albums or music that I loaded from CD-ROM and then downloaded the album art from iTunes, THAT album art did not transfer.
