Maximum Amperage HTC Hero (sprint), help

I want to charge my phone as quickly as possible. My understanding of electricity is fairly weak.

Things I believe I know:

You must have the correct (or close) voltage output.

It doesn't matter how many amps your AC adapter can put out as long as its more than the minimum the device requires.

Assuming my information is right, what is the voltage, minimum amperage and maximum amperage?

I believe the best you'll get is 1A. That's likely all the port/battery can handle (safely).

I know connecting it to a computer charges it at .5A, and the wall outlet charges it at double that.

In reality, your best bet at having a charged battery at all times (assuming that's what you're concerned about) is to get a second battery.

Having a second battery IMO is cumbersome; keeping it charged, keeping track of it, having to turn off the phone to switch batteries etc.

Again, trying to determine if i'll benefit from a higher amperage adapter.
