Wake from sleep annoyance (for me, anyway)

I'd like to know if it's just me, but does ANYONE else find it incredibly inconvienient that the 'wake-up' button is on the side and somewhat recessed!

I'm a former iPhone user (sorry) and most times that *I* need to wake the device from sleep is when it is lying flat on the table (desk, counter, table or coffee table... whatever).

I can no longer just press down and swipe to wake it up and continue... I now have to grip the phone on both sides and fumble to find the slightly recessed wake button, often inadvertantly changing the audio level and most times lifting the device off of the surface due to the tapered body shape of the captivate.

It is no problem whatsoever when it's in my pocket, or in my hand, but, for me, this is "not* the majority of it's usage...

...just venting my personal issue with the harware design... I'm not saying I don't like the device, on the contrary, I LOVE it... and I *will* be keeping it instead of blindly moving on the iPhone 4.

... this IS a big deal for me though!!!! Anyone else????

It's not recessed, it's just beyond the event horizon. =P

Yeah, the power button is somewhere else than people are used to. Admittedly it takes getting used to. I'd prefer it on top as I'm sure most everyone else would too, but I wouldn't let myself get too upset over it. You'll be used to it within a couple of weeks.

Two years from now you'll be complaining that your new phone has the power on top and you're used to it being on the side =P

Yeah I was very uncomfortable with it at first, and I'm still getting use to it. I DO like that there are no buttons on the top or bottom of the device... just not use to it. One thing I'm not a big fan of is the charging port on the top. Why? Put the phone in a windshield mount in your car vertically and try and comfortably plug in a car charger... you'll get my point.

It's not a problem at all for me, but that's because it's almost in exactly the same location as my previous, an AT&T (HTC) Tilt. In fact, I like it much better, because that button really was recessed to being flush with and even slightly below the plastic around it, while this one sticks up a little. I've had no issues with it at all and find it easy to use. That's not to say I haven't once or twice bumped the ringer volume at the same time, but it doesn't happen terribly often and it's not really a big deal.

Now if we dont get a nice dock for our desktop mode I'm gonna have to build me one.

You mean like this?

Well in all fairness if you use the dock, the button is not entirely fairly labeled "on top" because of where the button is located and the ~30 degree angle of the phone in the dock, the button is now located BEHIND the phone.

God, what a piece of crap this Samsung Captivate is... and I'm just so disappointed in Samsung for this product!

Why in the world would I not be able to wake up the screen by tapping on top of the phone... come on!!

I don't mind the power button being on the side, I just wish there was something different about it compared to the volume rocker on the other side. I feel like I have to squeeze the volume buttons to hit that power button.

However, that said, it's been a relatively minor annoyance for me. I love that you can close the plug in on top, and overall I really dig the design of the phone.
