Ok, confusion time for me :)

My build # is 2.73.61.91

Now i know everyone is mentioning that the phone needs to be on .66, but as far as i'm aware, i have actually had the 'Part 1' update today, it shut down my phone etc and i have the 'check for updates' button in 'about phone'.

However i'm getting no second part coming through forthe 2.1?? And my firmware most definately says 1.5

Do i need to install the .66 still? Just seems a little strange they let me download part 1 if the part 2 isnt applicable to my current Build #.

Thanks for any help!

EDIT# I'm on Orange, Orange network, and orange branded phone direct from Orange :)

@Gsuperstar

Im a complete noob, but following a few posts on here i did this:

Downloaded the .66 Rom from the HTC site.

Installed it > then i got the prompt for the "1st" update.

(now your here)

Then i just switched my phone off and back on . . and i got another prompt about the update . .

Clicked on that and about 10 mins later (no re-boots) 2.1 was up and ready to go :)

That was it, it was painless . . .my only advice would be remove your memory card or back it up , as the only problem i had was it said "memory card Damaged" and FORCED me to format it.

Managed to get the 1st update just by switching the date a couple of months forward. Cant get the 2nd though.
Tried several reboots and moving date forward.

I'm not on .66 as I've been having an absolute nightmare trying to update. First it connects and the Hero shows the white screen with green writing. then the PC shows that its has disconnected, everytime.
I think its something to do with Windows 7 but its driving me mad now.

I've already posted in the Hero section for help with this.

I'm also currently part way though the update process...

Update my ROM to .66, made the date one month ahead and got first OTA update, put the date another month ahead and got a second update... will keep you posted!

Ok, the second update I received was the main update, I'm now running 2.1.

The trigger for my handset was updating to .66 and putting the date forward.

Running winXP and didn't have any trouble installing .66 ROM update.

Working well for me. Couple of minor problems though. The youtube app doesn't like it if you have a separate youtube login. The phone kept trying to sync it like an email account. I managed to find the option to disable it (in the accounts and sync settings) from trying to download contacts and the errors haven't popped up again.

Also the date is missing from the main HTC clock/weather widget. :(

Still disconnects when trying to update to .66. Its when it reboots to the bootloader screen, it drops the connection and then wont come back.
The timer just counts up and then eventually gives up.

any ideas folks, seems a bit drastic to try install xp just for this

Sounds like a USB driver issue to me. I had loads of problems with this. You must manually update the driver using 'have disk' so it shows My HTC.

Once I got it to this stage it worked like a dream.

It was such a stressful experience that I'm forgetting the official Orange 2.1 Rom and sticking with villainROM 12

been following the thread and got rather excited this morning about the news of the update. Changed to .66 yesterday & got part 1 of the update. Hitting the Check Now button for updates did nothing apart from say that I was up-to-date.

Powered down phone and gave it a minute or so. On powering up again (and after apps reloading) got the update message for part 2 (78MB) and am updating as I type.

Just thought I'd share.......:)

Hi folks

I've had my Hero (direct from Orange)since back in Oct last year. I've never done anything to it apart from install Wave Secure and some apps. I see now that there is an update. How do I go about this? Do I have to get something from the HTC website or will I just get a text unannounced or what :thinking:

Will this update give Bluetooth file transfer?

Will I lose my apps/contacts/logins for GoogleMail etc?

Treat me gently as I'm not the most tech savvy chap on the planet!

Thanks for your time :)

Download the most recent firmware update from here and install it as per the instructions. When it's done and the handset restarts you should get a prompt to accept the preparatory OTA update. If it doesn't appear within a few minutes try setting the date a month forward and that should trigger it. Once this update is installed the second major OTA will be available; this is the update to 2.1.

Will this update give Bluetooth file transfer?
Yes

Will I lose my apps/contacts/logins for GoogleMail etc?
Your handset will be wiped during the update, so yes. Apps are easily reinstalled from the Market and Googlemail contacts will resync as soon as you log back in to the service. So long as you have a record of usernames/passwords you'll be fine. There's plenty of advice in earlier posts in this thread from users who have already gone through the update.
