Root Root me baby one more time

+1 for this, I'm not sure that apps2sd is set to work by default.

Do a google search for samdroidtools.apk and download them from sandroid (you need to install them using a file manager like linda manager). You can then enable apps2sd, which I have done...

Though I am still not sure it is working - how can I check? If I understand correctly this moves the app cache to the sd card and creates symbolic links, but surely if you try and look at the one on the phone you'll just see the one on the sd card?

Thanks to the OP for this guide, followed it to the letter and appears to be working perfectly. I'd add one other thing for anyone wanting to do this - if you're running Windows 7, be sure to run Odin as administrator (right click, run as administrator) otherwise Odin won't recognise your phone OR the flash will freeze before beginning.

One question though: The new firmware comes with myspace, layar and some other programs. How would I go about uninstalling them if I wanted to? I can't remove them as I would any other app!

I had to reflash last night due to launcherpro forceclosing on startup so i reflashed, now it boots up like a stock android phone, everything works perfectly, except the samdroid boot screen isnt there anymore, it boots up like it did when it was stock, any ideas? Or should I just leave it? It also has samsung keyboard installed, like it did before the update to 2.1, is this anything to be concerned about? It didnt have this after I flashed it last time.

I just found out I have no recovery mode either!

I unlocked my Spica my Spica yesterday and followed exactly your guide Beerkan "root me baby one more time", I got passed on Odin, but my Spica kept rebooting, so I didn't know what to do???? So I flashed it again with I570XXJCE and kept i5700_LK2-08_PDA, everything went right.
I have some questions Iam a newbie so please have patiens with me
1- My Spica shows i570EXXJC1 like before, I don't know how can I use my new rooted phone?
2 My phone keep on telling me that I lost data communication?? no roaming?
I cannot sign in my google account, there is no network connection?

Please help! Thanks to all answers

I think you've just reflashed it, and have no root access. This isn't dangerous, but sounds like you need to reapply the samdroid mods etc...

Thankyou. I got it back to normal, follwing beerkans root guide to the letter, but i noticed he put a new firmware there, but i still used the one that was on before, do you know what this firmware would do? would it be an improvement to the one that was previously there? Do you know how to reapply a different firmware? Not sure if I would just repeat the flash process and root the phone again. Sorry for all the questions lol. Still pretty new to android, and on this forum, replies are few and far between :p

Also, can anybody enlighten me about optimised turbolibs, benefits of installing, how to install, and if it can be done from the phone itself, installed by recovery menu?

Does anybody know which single file Beerkan was referring to when he mentioned he had a file for those who used his rooting guide who wish to install livewallpapers but were having trouble? It keeps forceclosing, and will not work, but Beerkan mentioned in july he had a file he was going to upload, but I cannot seem to find it. Anybody else have any easy solutions to livewallpapers on a galaxy portal running 2.1(unofficial)

Sorry for being a noob,

But I've downloaded all the files mentioned in the first post:

Odin_v4.03_spica_jc3_ops.rar
I5700XXJH6.rar
i5700_LK2-08_PDA.7z

But when I'm in Odin, I cannot find these (below) files when I extract all of the above to a folder on my desktop.

BOOT = I570EXXJF1_CL324368_Bootloaderr.tar
PHONE = I570EXXJD1_Phone.tar
PDA = I570EXXJF2_CL412391_PDA.tar
CSC = I570EOXEJF1-CSC-MULTI-CL403683.tar

All I want to do is get updated from JC1 so I can root.

Any help?

EDIT: Found out you have to use 'One Package' with the newest firmware!

Thanks beerkan, but it has to be 1.5, long story, but basically it has to be 1.5 android so I can send it back in original condition.

Here are my details

Model number GT-I5700
Firmware version 2.1-update1
Baseband version i570EXXJD1
Kernel version 2.6.29 leshak@i5700-dev7 #89
Build number LK2.03.3 / SamdroidMod 1.0.2 [samdroid.net]

Hope this helps, it needs to be like a uk galaxy portal freshly rolled out the factory.

I don't it should matter, because you can update your phone without rooting it? It's your right to. It should be run if you flashed to 2.1 without root.
