So I have pictures in my gallery. I do 'set as' and select wallpaper. That green box that appears is the biggest piece of crap ever invented. It blows the image up, moves it all around...useless!

What size do I need to crop pics to fit to screen. Using larger pics is a bust

Make sure that when the little green box comes up that you tap the side and hold it, exposing the 'green box resizing' arrows. then drag the box to its largest size.

If the wallpaper is the correct size, the box will go to the outer edges and should not pixelate your background

I'll give that a shot in. Just bothers me. Now I gotta crop all these pics and create a wallpaper type folder to store them...Agh!

I did that at first, until i realized that that green box can be resized.
You really dont need to create a new folder if you dont want..
I have all sorts of sizes and shapes, and once that box comes up just resize it ( like BenJammin said, press and hold one of the 'green sides' of the box) to select what you want from the photo as your wallpaper, and youre golden.

I agree though, I dont like it very much either.

I can not get this to work. I resized to 960 X 800 and I still get the crap box and have it blow the image way up. With such a great screen on this phone it handles images like crap. The image of people when I get a call...distorted! Wallpaper, distorted. Camera...crap! If it weren't for the screensize I would question why I even bought this phone over the Ip4.

Are you sure you're resizing the green box? If you're using images that are native offical wallpaper size, then you *have* to resize the box to max out the dimensions. Otherwise, it'll crop your native sized image to something smaller, then resize it up and distort the image.

Bigger images mean you don't have to use the whole image, and can crop out just a bit using the box. The larger the image, the smaller the areas you can optionally pick out without having to max out the cropping rectangle.

The Backgrounds app uses native-sized wallpapers, so if you grab one of them and full-size the green rectangle, you can make sure you'll have a right-sized background image.

Yeah, sounds like you're not maximizing the green box. I normally touch the corner of the green box and expand it to its full size (though now I see that all I need to do is touch any edge and pull away from the center). Then I slide it left/right on my 3:2 aspect ratio photos to choose what I want to include in the wallpaper.

If you're getting anything blown up and pixelated, it's cause your green box was not expanded to its full size.

Here's a screenie of what the green box should look like when you are in the process of resizing it. I took this shot with my finger still on the green box while shaking the phone (to trigger the screenie). Apparently my finger slipped a little and the green box shrunk a bit. but basically you want to stretch it so that the green touches the edges of the image.

If anyone is curious, I took that photo in Mykonos, Greece.

Um, the contact photo compression is a known problem, and the work around is pretty ridiculous.

The camera? It's not that good, no matter how you slice it.

The wallpaper "issue" is just not very user friendly if you don't know about the resolution.

Don't be such an elitist. Not everyone's a nerd.

The bottom line here, is that there is no wallpaper issue. It is working. As intended. Can't figure it out? Well luckily there are several threads that have already covered this "issue." Last time I checked, you didn't have to be a nerd to advanced tasks like "searching" or "reading."

That's why I put "issue" in quotes. Maybe you need to "comprehend" that post better.

That's why I put it in quotes as well. Maybe you need to better "comprehend" my point. Do these same people cry to Wonder when they have to fold their lunch meat to fit it on their sandwich? It's not that hard. The square peg goes in the square hole.

Most people don't want to **** with their phones. The crop "feature" has caused a lot of confusion for people on these boards.
