HTC Sense put to shame

Iam using launcher pro and get force close when I rotate, had to turn it off, which was one of the main reasons I switched. Do you have it set to rotate? What are your memory settings? I have tired several variations but still happens from time to time. adw was stable for me but I like LP better, the scrollable dock bar is great and the transitions seem smoother to me.

I turn off the rotation feature. I actually hate that that when my screen flips and I do not want it to. So it is very possible that is an issue with that but I cannot comment on that.

i LOVE Launcher Pro but only have 1 major concern.. i missed a very important email the other day when i switched from Sense to Launcher Pro.. i had a Gmail and Exchange icon on my phone and was waiting for the 1 or 2 to appear and tell me i had new email to check.. never saw anything.. when i manually checked my email, i had missed 9 emails total and decided to leave them as is and maybe it was a syncing issue.. but no.. the 9 never showed up on the Exchange Mail icon i had on the main screen..

is there a fix for this or whats going on? i have since tried to make the icon with 1 unread email.. the 1 was on top of the Exchange and never went away with new mail or no unread emails.. someone help me out with this one..
Get pure messenger widget. You can read your email's right in the widget when they come in. You can also set you text messages to come into the widget as well. It rocks!

For and agenda app, nothing beats Android Agenda Widget. Great options and great layout.....

These widgets are definety top notch and do not make me miss Sense at all....

Another cool one is Mobile buzz. Definetly for the geek in us!

I still prefer Sense over LP and ADW. I've use both for a while now and the two either locks up, force close, or doesn't scroll smoothly at all. This occur daily on my phone using the two launcher. Switch back to Sense and no issue at all. It's just quicker, stable, and works the way it should. Until the stock Froyo launcher comes out on the Evo I'll stick with Sense.

I don't know man, I really liked how fast 2.2 was but I missed sense so much I went back to it. For me it was the little things, like the dialer for example, the stock android dialer is pretty garbage to put it nicely (dialer one isn't that much better). But the one reason why I went back was because of my keyboard. I love the HTC_IME keyboard. I used it on my evo before I flashed CM6 and couldn't get it to calibrate on 2.2. What keyboard are you using on Cyanogenmod?

I'm using the regular keyboard that comes with CM6. You know you can use the HTC keyboard on CM6 right ;-). Let me see if I can find the file for you.

As for the OP, you say you downloaded and tried both ADW and launcherPro, but you did not specify which one you like best.

Yeah, I was undecided, mainly because I saw certain features that I liked in one but not the other. It will take me some time using both before I can tell which one suits me better.

Neither one of them has FC'd on me. I know it's a very real issue for a lot of people, and therefore they are not viable Sense replacements. The lack of good widgets is another problem. I'm actually considering learning to write my own apps/widgets to fill the gap. I am a programmer by trade, after all. Maybe I'll crank something out that actually works.

I'm also going to wait for a Sense Froyo ROM before committing to quitting Sense. I like my current homescreen setup with stock Sense, and I don't want to spend the time adapting to a new layout until I know what the future Sense will be like.

To the OP, you might find ADW or LauncherPro, hey maybe even the installable DroidLauncher better in your personal use. I neither agree nor disagree with your findings.

The point many (not necessarily you) fail to notice is that while these secondary options are great for some, the masses generally don't have either the time, know how, motivation, expertise or experience to customize a device in such depth.

The Evo thread as a whole has just over 130,000 individual posts, just over 8,000 threads. Many of us create more than one thread, and post multiple times in each thread. Considering the number of Evo's sold to date, this is a stark comparison for the percentage of "forum phone owners" compared to your laymen user.

The biggest advantage in HTC emploring Sense UI is it's laymen application for the masses.

Case and Point: My mother played with my Evo for a day and a week later bought one (when she finally found ONE..Literally One... in stock). Two weeks later I visited, and while there I picked hers up to check out her customization.

The result was ONE app shortcut had been replaced on the home screen and the wallpaper had been changed. Also, apparently in a visit to the Sprint store, the Sprint rep had deleted the Sprint Nav shortcut on screen 5, she had no idea how to add it back.

So two weeks in full use, day to day and nearly no customization. She hadn't figured out where the market was, how to make widgets, what widgets are, and lots, lots more.

I guess the take away is that these devices can be extremely complicated and excessive for a great deal of the users. That's where Sense stands out - for the people who already have trouble using all the features of such an incredible device.

Agree. I might would stick with it through the Force Closes if the screen didn't lose resolution with them and I could use my sense widgets, but I just can't get over that for some reason.

I said a while back that HTC should pay one of these devs to make their homepage and it would be awesome. Seems like business as usual where the devs give us everything they can think of and the manufacturers give us rations so they can brag on the next device.

I like things to plain and simple work. Sense has never proved this theory wrong. I have never had a problem with it.

Its the same reason I bought a MacBook Pro. It does exactly what it says it is going to do EVERY SINGLE TIME. I would have gotten an iPhone but I think android does what it promises to do better than what the iPhone does what it promises to do. Also, android doesn't listen to a superior, aka AT&T.

If google made a laptop OS and a provider used the quality that HTC (or apple) does for their phones I would probably ditch the MacBook, before you guys all start to flame.

google IS making a laptop OS.... keep your eyes out for it. I went to a software conference at google for my company and the dude there was using some slick software on his laptop. I asked is that the google OS? He said, yup. I said, can I see? He said NOPE! ... and closed his laptop lol

Lost resolution, force closes, whack widgets and no scene changes made me scrap launcher pro. No stock software is great but sense is the best of the ones I've seen. In terms of customizability the ad-ons work awesome. They are brittle so great on integration yet.
Yep it was the same for me. After a few weeks my LP would barely work. I'm not sure if it just wouldn't play nice with my unrevoked but it crashed big time.

If you are getting force closes on LP then you have other issues going on with your device. I have been using LP for the past month and have not gotten one force close from it. It is stable and I call BS on anyone who says it is not....

There is also a scrolling RSS/weather widget that was pulled from the nexus 1 I believe that is better then the one on Sense as Sense cuts off the words in the widget. You can search XDA for it.

There is also some great weather programs out there. You just need to look for them! Along with the ability to have scrollable widgets, LP cannot be beat!!!!!

I used to be a fan of Sense but see no need for it anymore. Every widget I have found for LP has outdone any Sense widget I have used.

Edit....The weather program is located here:
Weather forecast widget v2 - Android app on AppBrain

The paid version lets you change the icons and backgrounds but you can checkout the free version. Also, in the settings menu you can change where you can pull US data from so you do not need to use Google's which is wrong
As soon as I removed LP all my problems ceased. There might be an app or combo of apps some of us have that don't play nice with LP because I have heard others say the same but them many are like you and have no problems at all.

When I can get a decent package of widgets that perform as flawlessly as my Sense widgets, I will consider changing. Up to this point, I have tried both the ADW Launcher and Launcher Pro and they clearly have more "bugs" than Sense does. The "best" weather widget for Launcher Pro (from Beautiful Widgets) is off by 20 degrees, for crying out loud. I have tried the alternatives and I am not what you would consider a "noob" when it comes to technology, but I still like Sense for the fact that it all works so smoothly, compared to the other 2.

LauncherPro+, yo. Scrollable Widgets that are amazing with more coming out it seems every other week. Blows Sense WAY out of the water.

I'm surprised nobody mentioned TatHome. It's not out yet, but I can't WAIT for it to be. It looks really cool with all it's stuff. Definitely DO want it as SOON as it's available for download.

You can be sure it will never be available. Here is their marketing plan from their website:

"Will TAT Home be available on Android Market? The target customers for TAT Home are phone vendors and operators that want a custom user interface on Android phones. At the moment we have no plans to release TAT Home to consumers via an open marketplace."

I'm using Launcher Pro and folder organizer so that I'm able to do away with a lot of the home screens that I didn't need. The only force close that I came across was the friend stream...but I'm assuming that's because it's a sense app?? (Newbie here!)
Anywho, I like LP a lot better and haven't had any other troubles.

Does anyone else have any suggestions on an integration app for facebook and twitter since friend stream won't work on LP?
