EVO 4G's Android 2.2 update starts trickling out July 30 (official OTA August 3rd)

Uh oh, I found this on PCWORLD article

...if you don't want to wait, Sprint says you can manually download the upgrade starting Tuesday: Simply select the "HTC Software Update" option in the "System Updates" section of the phone's main settings menu to force the process to begin."

That's my only concern now.

Will this update be manually available tomorrow Friday or Tuesday? Because the press release does not say anywhere that is tomorrow Friday.

Good catch...it is very ambiguous. The original post from Engadget which showed the Sprint slides explicitly stated tomorrow...the follow-up didn't contradict it, but didn't really give any date at all for the manual update. If you just read the official statement from Sprint, that is a perfectly legit way of interpreting it.

It's an open question.

I'm just gonna wait til it gets pushed to me, to be safe.
By then all the unknowns will be known.

Does anyone know if you can update right to Froyo from the original build of the phone? When I got my replacement Evo (light leak, blown earpiece, etc.) I never installed the new 1.47.651.1 OTA update. I'd rather not install 1.47 and skip over it right to Froyo. I don't know how android updates work, So I don't know if this is even possible. My fear is that when I go to check for HTC updates, it will always just tell me about 1.47 and never about Froyo.

Anyone have any good insights?

Also, If the Froyo build does not pan out (When hell freezes over, I know), is there any good way to revert back to the original build of the phone without rooting? I think a reset will only reset to the newest build applied to the phone and not revert back.

2.2 will have everything from 1.XX that didn't need improving and everything 2.2 is bringing to the table

from what i know it will always try for the latest version

just called tech support 3 different times and got the same answer...

If you MANUALLY update your phone anytime starting after midnight tonight, it SHOULD be available for download.... but may not be available till tomorrow morning....

I'll take that.... so I've gotta be up early, so I'm going to just try every hour or so... lol

We'll try in shifts. I will check every 5 minutes from 7am-8am. Whoever gets it first:

NEW FROYO THREAD!!!!!!!!!

lol... let's just start a texting tree lol...

seriously though, I'll try once or twice tonight... then again tomorrow, I may even roam into the corporate sprint store tomorrow if I'm near, and see if my friend there can check, if I don't see anything...

but I'm not terribly worried about it, end of next week we'll all have it,
