EVO # 4 going back

I noticed a smudge under the search button and could not figure out what it was. Well it seems like my slight screen separation at the bottom has moved around to the right side of the phone and is now actually starting to lift up under my buttons. :(

Since I'm still under my 30 days I'll just make Sprint send me a new one....ugh!

Update 1:

So Sprint is sending me a new phone in about 2 weeks.

I can keep using the old phone until I receive the new one.

My new contact date starts today and my new 30 day return starts when I receive the new phone.

They charged me for the new phone and will do a credit to my cc on the old phone once I return it.

Bummer is I still have to do the rebate dance.

I think they we're going to send me a refurb unit until I said I wanted a new one.

It sounds like you are pretty picky. I think a refurb would probably do good for you. That way when someone else returned their phone for whatever OCD reason they fixed it and made it perfect.

I think those that are quick to bash Robo should chill out. I can certainly relate to his problems.

Nitpicking? Hard to say without pictures of the issue, but for those of you saying "mine is flawless" that's good for you. I've experienced HTC's sub par build quality first hand. I'm on EVO #3 and if you would really like to see pictures of the issues I've had, I'll be happy to post them for you.

Anyway, he's posting his experience, if you don't like it, ignore it. It's not as if he's posting unsubstantiated information.

wow, wtf, every time I call they say, nope we don't have one, did you say anything that would make them want to give you one?

When I got mines the store people exact words to me was "We have them but they are pre sold or they are for NEW customers only, no upgrades or outright buyers can get them as of yet" This was about 3 weeks ago. Since I was new they had one for me, came from Verizon.

Man this is a rough crowd. There are plenty of build quality issues that can make one want to return four Evo's.

I'm working on getting two of mine returned. Black Evo sounds like it's speakers are blown even though the volume is way down, and my white Evo has screen separation issues in the lower left. Not light leakage, not an uneven glass panel, but a patch where it is evident the Capacitive screen is lifting and separating from the LCD panel below.

From my experience, it is very, very hard to tell a repackaged refurb from a completely new one.

Not really. A new phone will ALWAYS be shipped in the original box, still wrapped and taped in plastic. If it's not like that, it's a refurb. Most refurbs are shipped in a small cardboard box, with just the phone, no battery or accessories. And the refurbs will say REFURBISHED if you hit ##786#.

Did not know that. Thanks for the pointer.

Question...

My screen has some play in the bottom left corner. I bought the phone (new customer) 2 1/2 weeks ago. I called Sprint and they said because I purchased the phone from a retail Sprint store I have to go back to the store for an exchange....they can't send me a new phone and I send back the old one.

The store I bought it from doesn't have any in (none of the stores around here do), so Sprint said well they can give you a phone to use in the meantime (which i'm not doing).

Is it true that if you purchase the phone from a retail store, Sprint cannot send you a new phone?

They tried to give me that runaround, and I didnt buy it. I went into the Sprint store three times because they told me I had to go there. Each time the manager was an a-hole and told me my phone wasnt broken and that he WOULDNT order me another one. The third time I went, which I was told to do, he kicked me out of the store and threatened to call the police if I came back.

I called sprint back, explained the situation, and they said they would be happy to send me one over the phone. I have gotten 3 replacements sent to me over the phone, and only had to tell them that once. The last two they just sent it to me with no questions asked.

If you are within the 30 day return window they will make you go back to the original point of sale. If you are out of the 30 day return window then you can call and request a replacement with no issue, however sometimes they insist you go to a repair locAtion for assessment. Third party repair centers are the easiest to deal with.

Get a life and use Ur house phone instead cause every phone has some type of issue, there is NO perfect phone. Others would love to have an Evo. Mine isn't perfect and has minor issues but I love her just the same. Get over it!!

Agreed, but some issues aren't minor...

My first launch day evo had a pretty big gap, which I wouldn't consider minor. The leakage was visible in a normally lit room.

My 2nd EVO was utterly crap. Both speakers sounded blown and this...

And that is without a screen protector on it.

I'm on my third, which has very minor leakage only visible in a dark room. Everything else is great on it. All three were HW0002.

So if you have minor issues, you can live with it as I'm doing with my current one. If you have a serious issue, you have every right, as I did, to get an exchange.

Even the people at HTC that I worked with agreed that I shouldn't have these issues, otherwise they wouldn't have sent me replacements directly.

So if you bought a brand new car, and one of the windows wouldnt roll up all the way, allowing dust and water to constantly get inside your car, you wouldnt take it back and ask them to fix it? Sorry, but I paid good money for this phone, and want it to work correctly.

Alrighty then... Steve? Steve Jobs? Is that you? :D

I have a runaway Toyota with your name on it. Beside a "minor issue" with the brakes, it's perfect. And you know... others would "love" to have it...

I'd rather have no Evo than an Evo with issues that bother me enough to send it back.

Also these issues the OP has talked about are DEFECTS and i'm pretty sure defects aren't part of what the consumer should be buying. He deserves the product to be defect free. If I paid with my hard earned money and there's a defect that I am not happy with when I buy the phone, it will be taken back until I get one that is in the intended shape it's suppose to be in.

"This has a scratch, I want it PERFECT!" Seriously?

Seriously. I wouldn't take home a car in which I bought with scratches on it. I bought it as NEW...not LIKE NEW.

Thank you... as any savvy customer would do.

I refuse to accept substandard. If the product description says :this product has a screen that separates" and I bought it, shame on me; if not, I expect my money's worth.

They have frozen shipping on EVOs due to build issues. These stories are not made up, IMHO.

Utter BS. Someone at Sprint has to agree with him that this is an issue, otherwise they wouldn't keep sending him replacements. Screen lifting/Separation, light leakage, and other manufacturing defects is an issue that someone with a high end phone shouldn't have to put up with.

This exact statement that got the RIM Exec in hot water a few years ago.

I'm not sure why the current crop of consumers are satisfied with mediocrity, or something less than it. Redirect your anger at Manufacturers with QC issues.

Well said.

And that exec's statement was a big reason I ended up leaving BlackBerry.
