Facebook sync w/ 2.1 (v1,v2,v3)

I'm having this problem as well. Have also determined that the FC of process com.htc bg is the root of the problem....have done all the recommended checks and fix suggestions listed in this forum and the other ones and still no use.

It seems to sync my girl's facebook contacts fine..but not mine...,so jealous. Help?

I had this same problem with v.3. It had always worked fine for me with 1.5 and v.2. When I followed instructions given in this forum about removing facebook from the sync accounts in the settings menu and replacing it, it still did not work for me. What DID work for me was to remove "Facebook for HTC sense" from the sync accounts menu, then do a REBOOT, THEN add "Facebook for HTC Sense" back in and it worked instantly.
Hope this helps someone else.

I tried this and unfortunately I still get the force close. Do you shut down, then power back on or was it a soft reset?

I powered off, waited a minute or so, and powered back up. I did not remove the battery. Sorry it did not work for you.

A reboot worked for me too. Actually, interestingly enough, I add my Facebook account, turn off the phone, turn it back on, they still don't come back, so then I go to sleep. I wake up the next day, and all my contacts have their Facebook photos on their contact photos with no further input by me. It figures it all out automatically. Its really weird. At least, that's how it happens to me on V2.

Ok, so i thought maybe it was just my phone.

I managed to get Verizon to swap my phone for a Refurb. Back on 1.5, I rooted my phone and figured I wouldn't have any problems with facebook syncing (It WORKS on 1.5 with this current phone, i tried it)

-MY- Facebook contact card syncs. NO ONE ELSES does, even if I try and do it manualy. It's so weird, and I can't even ask HTC because they will just blame it on not running 1.5.

I have over 1k friends, but that doesn't have anything to do with it, since i was able to do it on 1.5.

will try a few more fixes tommorrow when sober.

No worries. I really appreciate all the help everyone is giving in trying to help all of us with this issue troubleshoot.

I did a factory reset last night just to see if it would work. Nope. com.htc.bg still force closes and no facebook sync.

I just switched over to the android OS from Blackberry and it's been quite a challenge. As soon as I downloaded and ran the FB app on Blackberry it automatically put the profile pics with my contacts.
What am I doing wrong? I went to contacts and tried every option. The accounts tab has an option to add account. When I try to add FB from the menu it doesn't show up on the sync list.

HELP! I really enjoyed having my FB profile pics on my contacts.

For HTC Sense users that are having FB sync issues:

I have had the same problem. I created an account here for the sole purpose of sharing this info. I fixed the problem by:


-First go into "Menu>Settings>Accounts & Sync."
-I then clicked the "Facebook for HTC Sense" link.
-I then removed the account.
-Now click the "Back" arrow and uncheck auto-sync.
-Press the Home button.
-If you use the HTC Facebook App navigate to it and go to the home

screen.
-Log out of the application.
(I would do this with any facebook app that you use to manage your

profile be it from HTC or third party.)
-Press the 'Home' button.
-Navigate as follows: "Menu>Settings>Accounts & Sync."
-Press "Add account."
-Click "Facebook for HTC Sense."
-Enter the appropriate information for your log-in.
-You should be automatically returned to the "Accounts & Sync" screen.
-Press "Sync Now."


Give the phone a few minutes to update. After a few minutes you should have a full list of synced contacts.


On a side note: For those of you that do not wish to have all of your facebook contacts on your contact list follow these steps:


-Navigate to "People"
-Press Menu.
-Press "View"
-Uncheck "Facebook"
-Ensure that "Phone" is checked and that any other parameters are

appropriate.


I hope this helped everyone. This was an issue that was frustrating me literally for days on end. Please feel free to pass this to any other forums that you may be a member of if it works for you.

doesnt work

I was having the exact same problem and I figured out the solution (at least for me). The problem was that I had changed my password for facebook on the website but not on my phone. I was still getting the facebook widget fine but none of my contacts would sync. I removed the facebook account from my phone and re-added it with the correct login and password, powered off and back on and most of my contacts sync right up. I had a few I had to manually do but most did automatically.

The only problem I have now is that when I go to view a contact it keeps force closing on me. Any ideas on the problem? Thanks.

the new update on the eris fixed my issue

I only want those contacts in my phone that have numbers synced to facebook.

Now that I just got upgraded to 2.1 It's not working for me either...

Just rooted and installed PlainJane ROM.. same issue.

Tried this and it didn't work. I was not using a leaked 2.1 OS and I still have 0 in my facebook contacts.

Don't work. The phone goes to sync contact and run for like 2 seconds and then stops. It's like there is something preventing it frpm updating. For the amount of friends that I have I would think if would have to run for longer than that.

There was a message i was reading on one of the htc support forums, it wasnt for eris but seems to fit and I havent confirmed it yet still waiting for them to reply to my email, but according to the forums someone there contacted htc and said they are aware of a problem with syncing to facebook and are working on the problem.

i read on xda forums that someone talked to a tech at htc about the phone not syncing with facebook and was told it is a problem with the facebook for htc sense app and that there is no fix as of yet. it pretty much affects all phones right now. if you want to check, remove your facebook for htc sense account (menu>settings>acounts and sync) then add it again and you will not be able to sync.

So I was having the same problem, and I ended up using syncmypics. Today I did a factory reset as my phone seemed to lag a bit, and what do you know Facebook is snycing now.
