Help Back to basics please.

Hello all.

as I have stated in anther thread (Live wallpaper one) your all great here a wonderful collection of funny and helpful people. honestly this is the most fun and informative android forum out there.

you do however have very few articles/posts about basic things for new android users. so, in this thread i hope to get some basic information that me and many other beginners on this forum can really start joining in...

1) Rooting - there is already a fantastic root guide for this phone here it helped me root mine with just a few minor hitches, but its all sorted now, thanks

2) Rooted - Now my phone is rooted what sorts of awesome things can i do that i may not know about? - is there anything that i should NOT download off the market? what should I NOT uninstall or install?

3) Live wallpaper - there is lots of talk about live wallpaper but no actual how to guides (that actually tell us where to get the files we need to let the portal do this)

3) Market - what are the apps i should have, the essentials? (for rooted and un-rooted)

4) App2SD - anyone got a proper guide of this process, tips, tricks, need to knows?

5) home screen replacement - please explain what benefits i get and can i replace totally (uninstall Pantheon)

6) Music players - I use the built in player (not sure what its called) are there much better ones and can i make them default players? can any of them scrobble to last.fm?

i know these are pretty basic things to android veterans like your selves and if this stuff has already been posted pelase point me to them, i think many people on this forum will benefit from ANY feedback here :)

thanks allot, and i hope my little Q&A thread there has not annoyed anyone.

Can help with a few but not all:

3.) As space is limited on the portal - pretty much all the apps on my phone are essential (to me anyway!) - so here's my apps - Sipart's Apps on the phone - feel free to browse

5.) A Home replacement certainly helps with battery life and performance (especially over Pantheon). Personally I've settled with LauncherPro (and paid for the plus version recently). LauncherPro+ also has scrollable widgets as well as being smooth, flexible and quick.

6.) 3 (cubed) is a lovely music player and it scrobbles, as does tunewiki.

Hope that helps a little bit.

Uninstalling apps that are in the firmware are things that rooting can help with. I can't say my device is rooted yet so couldn't clarify details. When you run another Home replacement then the other one is not running in memory. If you search the forums for all beerkans posts you will find lots of useful nuggets of info on rooting and the like.
