Just found this article from CNET about Verizon's release of FROYO. I don't know if it's been posted already. There is hope that it will roll out next week for the Incredible as well as the Droid X. (sorry if this is old news).

I don't know if it's old news or not but seeing how people are on here several hours a day it's a good possibility it is but thanx for the link anyway.

i dont think most devices have had an official announcement about 2.2 let alone gingerbread...
:(

You are correct about that. I read an article about gingerbread saying it is coming out on mobile devices with screen sizes more than 4 inches. So there is a possibility it will only be released on phones no less than 4 inches. The DINC has the minimum requirements to run gingerbread but because of its screen size it might not be released on it.

Display support is usually limited by resolution, not screen size. Being WVGA, I think we're okay. They may drop support for HVGA with gingerbread.

it surprises me that they are dropping screen resolution support. although i guess since its not a desktop/laptop OS they dont really want to keep expanding the size of the ROM with extra bloat.

i am irritated though that if they force a high enough resolution then the 3.7 inch size screen will not be made anymore and i personally thing that the 4.3 inch is too large. maybe there will be 4 inch screens in the future. i might be able to compromise with that size.

i just cant stand how large the droid x feels in my hand. its like holding a brick.

i just saw the cnet post about verizon spokesman albert aydin commenting on release of froyo to the droid1. he wouldn't comment on the incredible. has anyone here ever tried to email this guy? probably worthless. i just don't get all the secrecy. they could at least name a month when they think they will release the update

unfortunatly if they name a month that they THINK the update will come in and are not ready for some reason at that time then there will be alot of pissed off people in these type of forums.
and truthfully i believe that the people that come to these forums make the most money for phone companies. we are people who buy phones before our NE2 discounts happen, and buy all the extra features even if we dont need them, we buy extra batteries and accessories just to try them out... we brick phones on accedent and have to buy new ones.

companies dont want to break promisses to the customers that spend the most money.

NOTE: i know not everyone in these forums (including myself) spends this much money and buys everything in excess, but i believe the people who do are very likely to also be a heavy user of these types of forums and definitly know when the next update should be coming out.

I'm happily running the leak with no issues. I love how people complain that Verizon takes too long to release updates but complain when minor issues exist in builds. It's one or the other.

A few reviewers have commented that the Incredible has a better build than the Evo. Verizon has higher standards, I can live with that.

Some people like official builds of the software that gets put on their phone. If something breaks while they're using an unofficial build, then they could be SOL because neither Verizon nor HTC are obligated to help them out in any way.

this would apply to me.
although im getting more comfortable with the idea every day that if my droid dies i could go back to using my BB curve instead of paying for a droid out of contract...

EDIT: i just dont think the chances of me ****ing something up are that high...

cant wait! im thinking we will have it soon... very very soon! ~~~~
i kind of expect that the launch will happen early in a week like monday or tues. i think software companies should always lauch updates on monday after completing the software update.
this way if there are any major bugs they have all week to work on a quick fix without putting their programmers on overtime over the weekend.

It's even more unlikely you'll F$@# something up in an irreversible manner. You'll probably be able to reflash (or whatnot) and revive the phone (NOTE: I haven't tried rooting or flashing the DrInc. So I could be wrong, and there are something weird with how our root/flash work.)

Aren't almost all Programmers salaried or contract? And the programmers working for HTC in Taiwan probably don't have to worry about OT either (Ok, I'm speculating about that. I have no knowledge about labor laws in the Republic of China).

Just replace "programers" with "technical support reps" and your basically right on.

I was told by two reliable sources, both of them said the same thing, end of July or early August.

And that would be why I would say September at the earliest... when is any update from Verizon out when we think it will be?

(FTR, I am very fond of Verizon and am not intending to bad mouth it... just that in my experience of MANY years with them and all with mobile computer phones ((I700, I730, xv6800)) the updates are always shipped on the proverbially "slow boat from China" and as always... I sure hope I am wrong this time around) :p
